Hi from the blog!

Kevin Day, July 15th, 2008

Hi! I’m starting this blog to post updates about the site and to write about other fantasy football related thoughts that I have.

First, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has participated in the mock drafts. It really is the community that makes the drafts useful and fun. I’ve been in a lot of great discussions on fantasy football in the draft rooms.

I started this site three years ago because I wanted a better live mock draft program. I am incredibly pleased that so many people have found the mock drafts as useful as I have.

This year is also the debut of the Lineup Calculator. I’ll have more posts about that later.

If you have questions or thoughts about the site, leave a comment below or send me an email at FFCalc@gmail.com.

Love the website man. Love it to death.

Any chance of getting roster adjustments and/or IDP involved?

Kethnaab on

Excellent site. Best for mocks anywhere on the web.
Roster options would be an xcellent addition to the existing format, as it is limited to only one.

Thank you very much for this site. I especially appreciate the ease of accessibility, the simple, clear, and unobtrusive draft room graphics, and the fact that it is free. I also think that now that you’ve done such an outstanding job with what is currently available here, all that you’ll hear is anxious requests for draft options matching the style format of different leagues (perhaps a separate link/tab for PPR, different roster requirements, IDP, etc.). I’d be happy to wait for any upgrades as long as it takes…at this quality level of product, I know that good things come to he who waits! Again, than you and congratulations on a fantastic site.

Love the site! Nothing like it anywhere else. I was just gonna suggest you add a way to import a completed mock draft to your lineup calculator. It would provide an interesting way to grade each draft we do. Either that, or a way to swap multiple players in and out of the system so that you don’t have to reload it each time. Just my thoughts on it. Keep up the great work!

I love the site. Suggestions: (1)Chat limits. Some jokers find it “funny” to spam the chat room with text, and it noticeably slows down the site. Put a spam timer on it so we can still chat, but at a reasonable pace. (2) Updated sort list for players based on their ADP. The sort list doesn’t seem to get updated, and some guys are buried far below their true ADP. (3) Holding the 8, 10, and 14 team leagues less frequently compared to 12 team leagues. More people draft in a 12-team format, so it makes sense to have more 12-team mocks.

Thanks for a great site Kevin!

First off Thank You! I start messing around with fantasy football very early in the season and this site lets me have a great time drafting and chatting with all of those other early birds. Honestly this site is perfect and I appreciate the time you spend listening to the community. Two years ago I wrote an email to FFcalc asking for more 10 team leagues and with in a month it was set up. And now I don’t waste picks on players that I can get in later rounds. Just keep doing what your doing!!!

Like I have said, this is awesome. love the calculator is now there without having to delete all before i put my line up in. That is great. when will we be able to save the line up calculators? Other than that, this is just about the best mock draft site around. love it! thanks for replying to my emails also, that has been great. later kevin!

Thanks for the great comments. I’m glad that you all enjoy the site.

Additional scoring systems are on my to-do list, but I can’t guarantee they’ll be added in time before the season starts. I’m in a PPR league myself and I would also get value out of a PPR mock. I know IDPs are popular also.

There’s extra work involved with keeping the rankings and draft picks separate that I need to work on before I can offer other league settings and scoring systems.

@mojo: Thanks for the support. I’m glad you’re patient :)

@Marcus: I do plan on adding a way to import a team from the mock drafts into the lineup calculator. That should be coming soon.

@Dave: Good suggestions. I haven’t seen drafts myself where people fill up the chat with spam, but that does sound like a problem. I’ll look into it and possibly add something to stop people from doing that. For the draft list, I know there are some discrepancies between the rankings and ADP, but I’ll probably keep it how it is for now. I believe that they’re very close for the first 80 or so players and it’s only at the end of the draft that it becomes a problem. For the draft team sizes, I’ll check to make sure that the drafts are being filled efficiently. 12-teams are usually the most popular.

@ken: Here’s a primer on fantasy football in general: http://msn.foxsports.com/fantasy/story/6886008. If you want to try a draft on this site, try signing up for one and then click the “Computer Control” button to get a feel for how a draft goes. After a couple you’ll get the hang of it. You can also ask people in the draft room for advice.

@stephan: Saving teams for the lineup calculator is a top priority and it should be added soon. Although everything else on the site is free, that will be a premium (pay) option that will let you save unlimited teams for a variety of scoring systems. Also, the rankings will be updated daily throughout the season to reflect injuries and depth chart changes.

Kevin Day on

are you going to charge for the line up all together or will the save part be the only pay portion. What about the rest of the site, will the mocks stay free?

stephan on

stephan: The mock drafts and ADP will always be free. Also, the current version of the lineup calculator will stay free throughout the preseason. When the season starts it will switch to either a limited version or a temporary free trial version. That hasn’t been decided yet. Everything else on the site will remain free.

Glad I found this site when i did. Nice work Kevin.

Mike Novick on

Your site is frickin’ awesome! So good that I’m actually hesitant to tell others in my league about this invaluable resource. Thank you!

Matt on

Excellent site. Only advice would be a customizable one user auto-draft…in other words, I would like to be able to input my league’s keeper list…and then do a draft from my position…for example, this year is year two of our keepers…so LT, Sjax, LJ, etc. must be released back into the pool…and keepers such as Palmer, Romo, AD, etc. are being kept…but in current format it’s hard to simulate a true draft…so if you could create a sigle user draft where one could input the list of the 12 keepers…and they would then be removed from the list of players…and then computer simulate all but one user’s spot…this could come in handy…just a thought….thanks for the site

Phil on

Hey Kevin, love the new look and improvements around here. Nicely done!

Mike MacGregor on

Love the mock drafts, just wish there was a PPR option to draft so everyone involved will draft for the basically the same scoring system.

Ed on

LOVE the site.

An upgrade on your server might be beneficial as the season gets closer. I’ve noticed some lag time especially in the peak hours. (though much improved so far in comparison to last year)

Also - maybe a dedicated draft room for teams that want to draft using your site. I’ve found your draft set up to be far more user friendly than the big pay sites.

Anyways - the possibilities are endless and I appreciate your efforts.

Eddie on

Eddie: Glad you like the site. Just today I doubled the capacity of the drafts, so there should be less lag time. Private drafts are on my wish list right now, and I’m not sure if they will be added in time for this season. Definitely in the future though.

Kevin Day on

Greetings fellas…excellent work as I am sure you know….This is by far the best Mock Draft Site I have come across…So good in fact that I would like to make a suggestion. The colored grid is invaluable to see who has what before and after you at a glance during the draft. Although other drafting tools include color coded stickers and charts, they are often huge and cumbersome. Is there any way to replicate this format for a private real time drafting at an live and in person draft. In other words, I want to bring my computer to the draft, and use the mock for all 8, 10, 12 teams respectively…..The easiest way I see this happening is to offer an extension to the mock rooms (or a separate page) where a person can sign up, and lock the room…That way you could invite friends and family for a mock….or accomplish your real draft via this incredible software. Thank you for everything…

Why does this site keep freezing in the middle of drafts??

jeff on

It is an awesome mock site, but if it keeps freezing every draft that I do, it doesn’t really help me practice. Others have said during the draft that the program freezes on them as well, so this isn’t just me. Keep the site good and fix this problem, please!!!!!!

jeff on

Great site, a lot of potential with with the lineup calculator. I have a questions when I look at the grid I notice some of the boxes are a darker color, what is the significants of this?

Lou on

Lou: The darker color indicates that the player will have an especially good game that week. A lighter color indicates a poor game.

It’s all relative to each player so there could be one player with a dark box that’s only 5 points while another player has a light box with 10 points. It’s based on the player’s average points for the season.
