The Super Bowl has finally arrived and it happens to feature two of the league’s most potent offenses. In this potential shootout, DraftKings has provided a Showdown slate consisting of five flex positions and a captain slot that scores 1.5x their fantasy points. This format puts a premium on roster construction and creates unique challenges for DFS players. With that said, here are this week’s standout plays on DrafKings.
Jared Goff ($15,000) - $10,000
Looking at the two quarterbacks on this slate, Jared Goff draws an edge over Tom Brady from both a pricing and an ownership perspective. After a few weeks of run-heavy football, Goff saw his pass attempts climb back up to 40 in a close game against the New Orleans Saints. Throughout 2018, Goff impressed with 286.5 passing yards and 35 pass attempts per game. Likely to carry lower ownership, Goff looks like a solid GPP target.
Todd Gurley - ($13,500) - $9,000
With the talk surrounding C.J. Anderson leading up to the Super Bowl, Todd Gurley has become a supreme value. Gurley averaged a massive 18.3 carries and 5.8 targets per game in the regular season. In their last two games, Gurley has out-targeted Anderson 5-2, showing superior pass catching ability. The Patriots have shown weakness against pass catching backs, including a 5 catch, 66-yard game to Damien Williams in the Conference Championship With recency bias depressing his ownership, Gurley deserves a look in the captain slot.
Robert Woods – ($11,700) - $7,800
Goff’s preferred pass catcher, Robert Woods again led the Rams with 10 targets in the Conference Championship. Since Cooper Kupp’s injury, Woods has led Los Angeles in targets (71) and catches (43). Woods will likely garner lowered ownership in this contest after Brandin Cooks blew up for 107 receiving yards in the Championship Round. However, coming in $400 cheaper, Woods remains the preferred play across game formats.
James White ($10,800) - $7,200
New England’s unsung hero throughout their last Super Bowl run, James White comes in as a value again this week. In the Patriot’s last two games, James White has received a massive 23 targets. The strength of the Rams’ run defense remains the interior, due to Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh. However, they have shown vulnerability to pass catching backs on the edges, including an 11 catch, 96 yard performance from Alvin Kamara in the Conference Championship. With the second-most playoff targets on the entire slate, White offers a sharp floor/ceiling combination.
Chris Hogan ($5,800) - $3,700
Heading to the bargain bin, look no further than Chris Hogan. Through two playoff games, Hogan has played 92% and 74% of the Patriots’ snaps. Hogan also saw 5 and 6 targets in each of these contests, providing enough volume for the price. While this only amounted to 58 total yards, Hogan’s offensive role remains noteworthy. Near the bottom of pricing, Hogan remains in GPP consideration due to offensive role alone.
Stephen Gostkowski ($4,800) - $2,400
Usually off the DraftKings’ main slate, kickers often play a pivotal role in Showdown contests. With the game total set at 56.5-points, kickers provide one of the safest means of acquiring points near the bottom of the salary tiers. On this particular slate, Stephen Gostkowski comes in cheaper than Greg Zuerlein with a higher implied team total (29.5). Gostkowski made 84.4% of his field goals and 98.0% of his extra points in the regular season, putting him in play for cash games.
