Melvin Gordon ’s average draft position has been rising. Even though pre-season games aren’t supposed to mean much, he has been shooting up draft boards ever since his August 13th game where he caught a pass for a 44-yard touchdown.
The two components of a running back’s value are talent and opportunity. Right now, both of those are trending upward for Gordon.
Also on Sunday, fellow Chargers running back, Branden Oliver, tore his Achilles tendon, and will be out for the year. Whatever carries Oliver was going to take from Gordon’s workload are now not a concern.
Melvin Gordon’s rookie season last year could probably not have been more disappointing. However, he has looked great in the pre-season so far, and will get a decent work load.
His recent momentum may be enough to get owners to forget about last year’s terrible performance. In the 6th round, he could redeem himself as a valuable fantasy asset.
