Curtis Samuel News

Commanders to Take a Look at Curtis Samuel?

Tuesday, June 30, 9:49 AM

The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala is intrigued by the prospect of the Washington Commanders adding veteran free-agent wide receiver Curtis Samuel before the start of training camp this summer. It's obvious that Washington needs WR depth behind WR1 Terry McLaurin, which is why they've been heavily linked to San Francisco 49ers disgruntled wideout Brandon Aiyuk (knee) all offseason. The risk with Samuel is his durability, as he's dealt with a string of injuries throughout his NFL career and has been active for only two full seasons in his nine years in the league. But the 29-year-old is still a free agent after the Buffalo Bills released him in March, and he's reportedly fully healthy. Samuel played in D.C. from 2021 through 2023, is close with McLaurin, and is familiar with WRs coach Bobby Engram. Samuel isn't exactly an ideal WR2, but he's versatile and has nine years of NFL experience. He played in just six games for Buffalo last year and caught seven of his nine targets for 81 yards and one touchdown, and he had just one TD in 14 games (two starts) the year before with the Bills.

Jakobi Meyers News

Jakobi Meyers Says he Will Play in Week 1

Wednesday, September 9, 10:40 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (hand) said that he will be playing on Sunday in the Week 1 regular-season opener versus the visiting Cleveland Browns, according to John Shipley of Sports Illustrated. The Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran reported that Meyers was wearing a non-contact jersey during the team's full-padded practice on Wednesday. Meyers could be listed as a limited practice participant on the team's first official practice report of 2026, but it looks like he is fine for the season opener this weekend against the Browns. The 29-year-old was acquired midseason last year from the Las Vegas Raiders and helped unlock head coach Liam Coen's offense. He caught 42 of 61 targets for 483 yards and three touchdowns in his nine games with the Jags in 2025, although Parker Washington's emergence late last year and this summer has caused Meyers' fantasy stock to tumble going into 2026. Meyers will still be a key player in Jacksonville's offense, but he should be treated as more of a WR4/flex in a crowded WR corps that also includes Brian Thomas Jr.
