Justin Herbert Won't Play in Second Preseason Game

Friday, August 8, 4:27 PM

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert won't play during Sunday's second preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Taylor Heinicke will get the starting nod for this contest. Trey Lance started during the Hall of Fame game last week. The two of them are competing for the backup gig behind Herbert to begin the season. It's unclear if Herbert is going to play at all during the preseason. At the moment, Herbert should be considered a fringe top-10 fantasy quarterback.

Jordan Love Undergoes Procedure on Left Thumb

Tuesday, August 12, 10:55 AM

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said that quarterback Jordan Love (thumb) is undergoing a procedure to fix a ligament issue in his left thumb, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky. Gutekunst says the hope is that Love will return to practice next week, and that the injury is not expected to affect him long-term or impact his Week 1 availability. The good news for both Packers fans and fantasy managers is that the injury is on Love's non-throwing hand, but this is still something to monitor throughout the remainder of the preseason. Love profiles as a mid-to-low-end QB2 in fantasy who needs passing volume to be a consistent contributor. If he were to miss time, Malik Willis would be the favorite to step in at quarterback in Green Bay, which would significantly impact the fantasy outlook of the Packers' pass-catchers.
