Matt Breida Calling it a Career

Thursday, August 14, 3:43 PM

Veteran free-agent running back Matt Breida is retiring from the NFL, according to ESPN. The former undrafted free agent signing out of Georgia Southern by the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 compiled 575 rushing attempts for 2,652 rushing yards and caught 120 passes for 935 receiving yards in 98 career games with the 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Giants. He tallied 15 total touchdowns. Breida had his moments on the fantasy football radar, particularly in 2018 when he rushed for 814 yards and tallied 261 receiving yards as a sophomore in Kyle Shanahan's offense. The 30-year-old declined a workout request from the Miami Dolphins this offseason.

David Montgomery Has Contract Updated by Texans

Saturday, March 14, 9:33 AM

Running back David Montgomery, recently acquired via trade by the Houston Texans, has had his contract upgraded by the team, with the two-year deal now worth up to $16.5 million. The revised contract, which features a $6.5 million signing bonus and heavy per-game active roster bonuses, signals that the Texans view him as their clear starter following a season in which rookie Woody Marks led the team in carries, but no back topped 200 attempts or more than 13 carries per game. Playing in a supporting role to Pro-Bowler Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit, Montgomery has also failed to reach the 200-carry mark in either of the past two seasons, giving him relatively fresh legs as he prepares for his age-29 campaign.
