Wide receiver Robert Woods announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday on his Instagram, according to Omar Ruiz of the NFL Network. Woods was with the Pittsburgh Steelers in training camp last summer but requested his release before the start of the regular season, and he never latched on with another team. The 33-year-old wraps up a successful 12-year NFL career, having caught 683 of his 1,093 targets for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns in 171 regular-season games played. Woods was originally a second-round pick in 2013 out of USC by the Buffalo Bills, and he played the first four years of his career with the Bills. He won a Super Bowl ring with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. In Woods' final NFL campaign in 2024 with the Houston Texans, he caught 20 of 30 targets for 203 yards and no touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday that the team has a chance to get veteran wide receiver Mike Evans (Achilles, rib) back in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders following their Week 8 bye, according to David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard. Evans has seemingly played banged up since training camp this summer, and he was forced to sit out of Sunday's first loss of the year against the Atlanta Falcons after aggravating his Achilles injury in last Monday night's victory over the Washington Commanders. The 33-year-old future Hall of Famer has also been playing through several broken ribs. The six-time Pro Bowler has been productive through it all, catching 27 of his 39 targets for 420 yards and three touchdowns in his first six games in San Francisco after spending the first 12 years of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Evans returns after the bye, he will be back on the WR2 radar in fantasy as the team's top wideout for quarterback Brock Purdy. Fantasy managers will need to watch Evans' practice status closely next week to determine if he will be ready to play versus the Raiders.
