The Dallas Cowboys released running back Ronald Jones on Monday, the team announced. Jones was eligible to return to the active 53-man roster on Monday after serving a two-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, but the Cowboys have opted to go in another direction. The 26-year-old will now be hoping to latch on with another organization to provide some backfield depth. Tony Pollard is the team's clear-cut starter, with Rico Dowdle and rookies Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke backing him up in the running back room. Jones shouldn't be rostered in single-year fantasy leagues right now.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason could be in line for snaps when the team hosts the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Elijah Mitchell is the usual backup to Christian McCaffrey but the former is questionable with a knee injury sustained in Thursday's practice. So far this year Mason has three carries for 11 yards and no receiving targets. Even if Mitchell doesn't play, Mason is unlikely to return significant value in fantasy leagues behind a healthy workhorse in McCaffrey. Although he hasn't seen any offensive snaps yet this season, it's also possible that Tyrion Davis-Price could get in the mix, further muddying the waters. It's best to leave all non-McCaffrey 49ers running backs out of fantasy lineups this week.
