Trent Sherfield Sr. Leads Broncos in Receiving, Finds End Zone on Saturday

Denver Broncos wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. continued to impress in the team's 30-9 win over the hosting San Francisco 49ers in the preseason opener on Saturday night. Sherfield caught all three of his targets for a team-high 73 receiving yards and also found the end zone on a pretty 36-yard catch in the front corner of the end zone. The 29-year-old has done nothing but impress during training camp practices and carried that over into the first preseason game. He should also contribute on special teams for the Broncos this year, but Sherfield's work already this summer should make him a lock for the 53-man roster going into Week 1 for at least WR and special-teams depth. The seven-year NFL veteran caught only eight of his nine targets for 83 yards and one touchdown in 17 games (one start) for Minnesota a year ago.

Jordan Watkins a Name to Look for on Waiver Wires as Next Man Up

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jordan Watkins caught two passes in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, matching his total from his 2025 rookie season, and he could be thrust into a featured role in a Niners offense that continues to impress despite a growing list of injuries. Veteran Mike Evans (ribs) is considered day-to-day with the rib strain that knocked him out of Sunday's victory, allowing Watkins to turn his two receptions into 60 yards. Quarterback Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level, and if Evans is unable to suit up against the Broncos, Watkins could feature heavily in two-receiver sets alongside Deebo Samuel Sr., making the 2025 fourth-round pick one of the week's top short-term adds.
