The Ever-Evolving Eagles Backfield Just when you thought you had it figured out, it changes again. Such is the life of an injury riddle backfield in a truly middling offense. The Eagles started the year with Miles Sanders expected to pave the way, getting some spells from rookie Kenneth Gainwell and possibly Boston Scott. However, Gainwell took a much greater role, especially in the passing game. Sanders gets hurt, and you expected Gainwell to see the majority of the touches but here comes Boston Scott with a two-touchdown day. Fine, makes sense, he has more history running the ball, and then out of nowhere, it's the revival of Jordan Howard, spelled by Boston Scott with almost no Gainwell to speak of.
