Part ways with Titans

The Titans cut Barnes on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Analysis: Barnes latched on with the Titans in late April and saw heavy usage during the preseason, but ultimately didn't show well enough to earn a spot on the initial 53-man roster. The Kansas State product boasts impressive measurables and rushed for 1,355 yards and 12 touchdowns on 256 carries in his final collegiate season. He shouldn't have much difficulty earning a chance for a depth spot elsewhere in the league.

Gets nine carries

Barnes carried the ball nine times for 32 yards in the team's third preseason contest against the Steelers on Sunday. He also added two catches for five yards.

Analysis: Barnes entered the game in the second half, with Logan Woodside under center. He tied for the team-lead with nine carries and his longest rush of the day went for 10 yards. Barnes' work in the passing game is also noteworthy, as he excelled as a receiver out of the backfield in his final season at Kansas State. He has an outside shot to make the team, though with Dalyn Dawkins (undisclosed) and David Fluellen (knee) currently sidelined, he is getting his chance to make an impression on the Titans.

Leads team in rushing

Barnes carried the ball seven times for 42 yards in the Titans' second preseason game against the Patriots.

Analysis: Barnes led the team in rush attempts for the second preseason contest, but this time managed more efficiency with his work. On the team's first offensive possession of the second half, Barnes received five consecutive carries and rushed for a solid 31 yards. This was a vast improvement over his first preseason performance and could keep him in the running to make the roster, especially if Dalyn Dawkins (undisclosed) is held out for any considerable amount of time.

Tallies 10 carries

Barnes rushed the ball 10 times for 14 yards in the team's first preseason game against the Eagles. He also added one reception for three yards.

Analysis: Barnes tied for the team lead in rushing attempts, but failed to produce much with the opportunity. His longest run went for just four yards and he was held for no gain on four occasions. The explosive rookie failed to break free of the Eagles' defense and will have to improve his performance to secure a roster spot heading into the regular season.
