Brenen Thompson Making Noise With More Big Plays
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Brenen Thompson connected with Justin Herbert for another deep completion at Sunday's practice, according to Alex Insdorf. It's becoming a theme for the rookie. The Chargers had already highlighted a pair of long catches from Herbert early in camp, including a deep cross that went for a big gain. Thompson has the speed for that kind of work after running a 4.26-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He also led the SEC with 1,054 receiving yards at Mississippi State last season while averaging 18.5 yards per catch and scoring six touchdowns. Los Angeles currently lists Thompson behind Quentin Johnston on its unofficial depth chart, with Ladd McConkey and Johnston in the starting spots and Tre' Harris also pushing for work. There is still plenty of competition for targets, but Thompson keeps making himself difficult to ignore. His downfield chemistry with Herbert has been one of the more consistent stories of Chargers camp.

Brenen Thompson Garners Six Targets in NFL Debut
Los Angeles Chargers wideout Brenen Thompson had two catches for 30 yards on six targets in Thursday's preseason 27-7 victory over the Houston Texans. Thompson was tied for the most targets last night (6) with wideout Keandre Lambert-Smith. The 23-year-old rookie immediately showed his ability to be a deep threat in the Chargers' offense with his average of 15 yards per catch. Thompson has had a strong training camp up to this point, and he could find his way into a consistent rotational role for the regular season if he continues to stand out. Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel made a heavy push for the team to draft him, so it will be worth managers keeping notes on him as the preseason goes on.

Brenen Thompson Turning Heads at Training Camp
Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Brenen Thompson has made a strong start at training camp. Thompson has emerged as a standout story at camp, earning praise from coaches and teammates as he aims to carve out a role in a crowded receiver room. The fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft had an SEC-leading 1,054 receiving yards at Mississippi State last season and showcased his speed at the NFL Combine, running a 4.26 in the 40-yard dash. Under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who has proven to value speed in his offense, Thompson has an opportunity to compete for targets in 2026. As a late-round option for fantasy drafts this season, the rookie receiver could be a playmaker in McDaniel's offense and contribute to fantasy seasons in 2026.

Brenen Thompson is Intriguing Dynasty League Stash
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Brenen Thompson might be able to carve out a consistent role for himself right away. The Chargers selected Thompson in the fourth-round of this year's draft. The Mississippi State product led the SEC in receiving yards and put on a show during the NFL Combine. Thompson could immediately push Tre' Harris for the third wideout role in this offense. Due to a lack of reps, Thompson will probably begin the season behind Harris, but it might not last too long. If Thompson proves himself, he could factor into the weekly gameplan in Los Angeles. He's not an ideal option in redraft formats, but Thompson is someone worth considering as a stash option in dynasty leagues.

Can Brenen Thompson Carve Out a Role as a Rookie?
Rookie wide receiver Brenen Thompson ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the 2026 NFL Combine, and while that has not always translated to fantasy success, in landing with the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, he pairs with the playcaller perhaps best equipped to take advantage of that speed. As the head coach in Miami, Mike McDaniel often made speed the defining quality of his high-powered offenses, producing fantasy-friendly results for receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle and running back De'Von Achane, and in his first season as the Chargers' offensive coordinator, the team has given him pieces to build a new speed-driven attack, Thompson included. While the undersized receiver could struggle to carve out a consistent role in a room with Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and 2025 second-round pick Tre' Harris, along with a pair of capable pass-catching tight ends, his 4.26 speed will make him a threat to go the distance anytime he's on the field. Thompson should not factor into plans for 2026 redraft leagues, but he's at least worthy of consideration in the late rounds of best ball drafts and is an intriguing dynasty stash in deeper leagues.

Brenen Thompson a Worthy Long-Term Upside Bet for Dynasty Managers
After recording 54 receptions for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns across 13 games in his final collegiate season at Mississippi State, wide receiver Brenen Thompson was selected in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. Thompson is known as a vertical field stretcher with elite speed, as evidenced by his 4.26-second 40-yard dash at the 2026 Scouting Combine. The 22-year-old will be part of a crowded wide receiver room in Los Angeles and projects to play a reserve role as a rookie behind Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Tre' Harris. Still, Thompson may have found an ideal landing spot with the Chargers thanks to the presence of new play-caller Mike McDaniel, who has a proven track record of weaponizing players with speed from his time with the Miami Dolphins. In dynasty formats, Thompson's long-term outlook is trending upwards ahead of his rookie campaign.

Brenen Thompson Compared to Tyreek Hill
Los Angeles Chargers rookie fourth-round wide receiver Brenen Thompson was compared to speedy former Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill by head coach Jim Harbaugh, according to Kris Rhim of ESPN. New Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who coached Hill in Miami, was advocating that the Chargers take the former Mississippi State speedster in this year's draft. He stands at 5-foot-9 and 164 pounds and will be the lightest player on the Chargers' roster, but he'll also be their fastest player after running a 4.26-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine -- the third-fastest time by a WR since 2003. Thompson had an SEC-leading 1,054 receiving yards in 2025, which set the single-season school record at Mississippi State. Hill was a first-team All-Pro in his first two seasons with McDaniel, and he had a career-high 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. Thompson has also been compared to former Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson. Thompson's speed is enticing, but he'll be competing for targets in L.A. in a crowded WR room that also includes Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Tre' Harris, and Derius Davis. Most likely, the 22-year-old will operate in a part-time role in specific packages in 2026 in which the Chargers can utilize his game-changing speed.

Chargers Select Brenen Thompson in the Fourth Round
The Los Angeles Chargers have selected Mississippi State wide receiver Brenen Thompson with the 105th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Thompson had an explosive 2025 season with the Bulldogs, catching 57 passes for an SEC-leading 1,054 receiving yards. He also had six receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. He'll presumably slot into the No. 4 receiver spot on the depth chart behind Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Tre' Harris. While he's buried in the pecking order for now, he certainly has long-term dynasty appeal, especially in an offense quarterbacked by Justin Herbert. Thompson entered this year's draft as the overall WR146 in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.
