Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele is looking to stay more involved in the Week 11 contest against the visiting Atlanta Falcons on Sunday after catching his first career touchdown pass in the Week 10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Vele's 35 offensive snaps he played last Sunday were the most in his first six NFL games, and he caught all four of his targets for 39 yards and the TD. The 26-year-old seventh-rounder out of Utah is actually third on the Broncos in receiving yards (215) this year behind Courtland Sutton and running back Javonte Williams and he should continue to have a role with Josh Reynolds (finger) on Injured Reserve. The Falcons secondary is inconsistent and vulnerable, too, although the lack of consistent volume for Vele makes him hard to recommend for starting fantasy lineups. He's caught 22 of his 27 targets on the year for 215 yards and one TD.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele found paydirt for the first time in his NFL career on Sunday in the Week 10 loss to the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs on the road, finishing the contest with four receptions for 39 yards and the touchdown. The 26-year-old seventh-rounder out of Utah caught everything thrown his way on the day, and his four targets were tied for second on the team with Marvin Mims Jr. behind WR1 Courtland Sutton. It was nice to see Vele pick up his first NFL touchdown on the first touchdown of the day in this game, but he has gone over four receptions just once and exceeded 50 receiving yards once in his six games played. Expect quarterback Bo Nix to keep spreading the ball around through the air outside of Sutton, which makes it hard to recommend Vele as a flex option in fantasy, even in much deeper leagues.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele probably isn't going to break out in the team's Week 10 matchup on the road against the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs, a defense that has allowed the eighth-fewest half-PPR fantasy points to opposing receivers this year. The seventh-round pick out of Utah has some intriguing long-term upside working with quarterback Bo Nix in Denver, but he's just not anywhere near the fantasy radar in single-year leagues. In just five games played in his first year in the NFL, Vele has 18 catches on 23 targets for 176 yards and no touchdowns. Courtland Sutton, the clear WR1 in Denver, is really the only fantasy relevant receiver that the Broncos have to offer in 2024. Even with Josh Reynolds (finger) on Injured Reserve, Vele just hasn't managed to stand out while competing for targets with Lil'Jordan Humphrey and fellow rookie Troy Franklin.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele reeled in all three of his targets for 28 yards in his team's 28-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers. It was an acceptable performance for the rookie wideout as quarterback Bo Nix spread the ball around effectively -- completing a pass to 11 different Denver pass-catchers, with seven recording at least two targets. Fellow wideout Courtland Sutton was the only Broncos skill player to register more than six (11). While Vele likely wasn't counted on by fantasy managers, it's a disappointing effort against one of the league's least formidable defenses, particularly after he recorded 14 targets over his first two outings. The 26-year-old will get another opportunity to be more involved in Week 9 when he and the Broncos square off against the Baltimore Ravens on the road.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele will square off against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday in Week 8. Vele recorded just one catch on three targets for 20 yards in last Thursday's win over the Saints, the lowest totals of his career thus far. It's a stark contrast to the 78 yards on 4-of-6 receiving he racked up the week prior, but in his defense, rookie quarterback Bo Nix was asked to do less in the win over New Orleans as opposed to the loss against the Chargers. The rookie wideout gets a juicy outing against a sieve-like Panthers defense this Sunday. Still, the seventh-round pick in this year's draft is not a reliable fantasy option just yet. His early career involvement, however, is encouraging. As RotoBaller's PPR WR74 ahead of Week 8, the rookie wideout is little more than a desperate dart throw.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele could be heavily involved in the team's Week 7 game on Thursday night against the hosting New Orleans Saints. With Josh Reynolds (finger) on Injured Reserve in the Week 6 loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers, Vele played 62% of the offensive snaps and caught four of his six targets for a team-high 78 yards in just his second NFL contest. In the season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the seventh-rounder out of Utah caught all eight of his targets for 39 yards. Although he's played in just two games, Vele has been extremely efficient with his opportunities and will have another shot to impress this week against a Saints defense that has allowed the sixth-most half-PPR points per game to pass-catchers in the last three weeks. While it's a stretch to call Vele a realistic starting option in fantasy, he should at least be on the watch list in deeper leagues.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele came out of nowhere to lead the Broncos with 78 receiving yards in the 23-16 Week 6 loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Both Vele's four receptions and six targets were tied with Courtland Sutton for the team lead on a day in which the Broncos' offense did all of its damage in the fourth quarter in comeback mode down 23 points. In his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, he caught all eight of his targets for 39 yards before missing time with an injury and then being a healthy scratch the last several weeks. The 26-year-old seventh-rounder out of Utah appears to have some nice chemistry with fellow rookie QB Bo Nix, and more opportunities will remain with Josh Reynolds (finger) missing at least the next three games while on IR. However, Vaughn should only be a deep-league waiver-wire consideration in Denver's low-scoring offense.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Week 4 versus the New York Jets. The rookie impressed with eight receptions back in Week 1 but hasn't played since then due to a combination of injury and being a healthy scratch. Going forward, it seems as though he'll need to earn his way onto the gameday roster through competition in practice. Until then, he can be left on waivers in all redraft and most dynasty leagues.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele (rib) is officially inactive for Week 3 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Vele was removed from the injury report Friday, so it's unclear whether he's inactive due to injury or coach's decision. Mike Klis of 9News provides some context on the situation, writing in a post to X, "He's healthy but didn't get many reps. Should be good next week at Jets." It seems as though Vele didn't get involved enough in practice, so the Broncos are holding him out for one more week. The rookie caught all eight of his targets for 39 yards back in Week 1, which made him an appealing waiver wire option heading into Week 2. He hasn't played since then, and fantasy managers are eager for him to return against New York next week.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele (ribs) practiced in full on both Thursday and Friday and was removed from the final injury report. Vele will be active for the Week 3 matchup on Sunday on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he was inactive for the Week 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 26-year-old's return on Sunday is bad news for Courtland Sutton and the team's leading receiver, Josh Reynolds, after Vele caught all eight of his targets for 39 yards in the Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The seventh-round selection out of Utah played 49% of the snaps in Week 1 and could immediately return as the WR3 and push fellow rookie Troy Franklin back to being a healthy scratch. While Vele appears to have some chemistry with rookie quarterback Bo Nix, he's nothing more than a deep-league stash for the time being in what has been an ugly offense through two games.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele (ribs) missed practice all week with an injury to his ribs and was officially ruled out on Friday for the team's Week 2 home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's extremely disappointing for Vele, who caught all eight of his targets for 39 yards on 49% of the offensive snaps in the Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The 26-year-old seventh-round selection this year seems to have already built some nice chemistry with fellow rookie quarterback Bo Nix, but he'll have to get healthy first before hoping to carve out a role as the WR3 in Denver in his first year in the NFL. For now, Vele is mostly just a bench stash in deep fantasy leagues and dynasty/keeper formats. Vele's absence on Sunday will create more targets for Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds and Marvin Mims Jr. against a tough defense.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele made a statement in his NFL debut on Sunday in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Vele didn't have a banner day by any means with just 39 receiving yards, but his eight receptions (on eight targets) surprisingly led the team on a day in which the Broncos offense couldn't really move the ball at all consistently in rookie first-round quarterback Bo Nix's NFL debut. Vele caught all eight of the balls thrown his way in this one and was tied for second in targets with Josh Reynolds, behind Courtland Sutton's 12. Vele, a seventh round pick this year, wasn't targeted very far beyond the line of scrimmage with his eight receptions, but just that fact that he commanded that much attention from Nix is notable. The 26-year-old seems to have developed some good chemistry with his QB and is worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues as a waiver pickup.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele drew praise from head coach Sean Payton when interviewed on Friday. Vele had been one of the standouts of Broncos camp and made the cut this week as Denver whittled down their roster to 53 in preparation for the regular season. When asked about the release of Tim Patrick, Payton remarked on the similarities between him and Vele and how the rookie reminds him of the veteran wideout. "They have like body types. They're big, they have strong hands in traffic," Payton said. "They're smart. They're tough. They catch it well. They block. Devaughn is a guy that I see in a similar way." Given his blocking ability and frame (6-foot-5), the former Utah Ute may see the field in his inaugural season. Additionally, the Broncos have little proven depth behind an aging Courtland Sutton and Josh Reynolds. Vele will compete with second-year wideout Marvin Mims Jr. and fellow rookie Troy Franklin for playing time in Denver's third wide receiver slot but can be safely avoided by fantasy managers for the time being.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele (undisclosed) was absent from practice again on Friday after leaving Wednesday early for an undisclosed reason. When asked by the media about Vele's absence, head coach Sean Payton said "he'll be fine." Payton did not offer specifics on the body part in question, though it does seem to involve a lower extremity, and he added that the wideout could suit up Sunday when Denver takes on the Green Bay Packers at home. The Broncos drafted Vele in the seventh round (235th overall) of April's draft out of Utah, and while he wasn't expected to make much of an impact in his rookie season -- he's balled out over the last week, and the excitement is building around him. Vele isn't your typical rookie, -- making his NFL debut at 26 years old -- but he ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4, and Denver's WR room is ripe for the taking behind Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., and Josh Reynolds.
Aug 16, 2024 10:12 PM EST
Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele was a seventh-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, meaning his path to making the opening-day roster will be challenging. However, Broncos reporter Benjamin Allbright said he is likely ahead of fourth-round rookie Troy Franklin on the depth chart, so he could have a realistic shot. The 26-year-old caught 98 passes for 1,288 yards and eight touchdowns in his final two seasons at Utah, but his solid showing at the 2024 NFL Combine was likely the primary factor in him being drafted. While it would be a nice surprise if he's on the Week 1 roster, he's unlikely to make a fantasy football impact as the potential WR4 or WR5 in an offense led by veteran Jarrett Stidham or rookie Bo Nix.
