Lands on practice squad injury list

Valles was placed on the Giants' practice squad injury list with an undisclosed injury.

Analysis: At the current moment, it's unclear what led to Valles' placement on the injury list. Valles was brought onto the team's practice squad in late November and has yet to be promoted to the active roster. He'll have to wait until next season for another shot.

Added to Giants' practice squad

Valles was signed to the Giants' practice squad Tuesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: The Monmouth product suited up in three games for Detroit this season and caught two of three targets for 11 yards. With Evan Engram nursing a hamstring injury, Valles could provide depth at the tight end position for the Giants.

Drops to waivers

The Lions waived Valles on Saturday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Valles suited up three games for the Lions this season, catching two of three targets for 11 yards. His ceiling is as a run-blocking tight end without fantasy relevance at this time.

Draws two targets in Week 1

Valles caught one of two targets for five yards during Monday's 48-17 loss to the Jets.

Analysis: Valles ultimately drew the second-most snaps of all Lions tight ends while seeing the most targets in the passing game. However, it's hard to get excited about his long-term outlook given the committee approach Detroit is taking to the position.

Makes the team

Valles has secured a spot on the Lions' 53-man roster, Kyle Meinke of MLive Media Group reports.

Analysis: It would've been a surprise had Valles not made the roster given his impressive play in training camp and the preseason this summer. However, the tight end is still set to open the 2018 campaign buried on the depth chart and, consequently, unlikely to make a significant offensive impact for the Lions at this juncture.

Carving out roster spot

Valles is making his case for a spot on the 53-man roster, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

Analysis: Valles looked excellent in joint practices against the Giants, hauling in a pair of touchdown passes while spending significant time with the first team. No. 2 TE Michael Roberts has struggled during August practices, so Valles could relieve him as a guy who can run block and make catches. Still, Valles hasn't made a catch over 12 games since entering the league in 2016, so his fantasy impact will be minimal behind starter Luke Willson.
