Let go by Cincinnati

The Bengals waived Patrick on Tuesday.

Analysis: Patrick returned to the Bengals at the end of July to serve as a depth running back while Cincinnati dealt with multiple injuries, but he finds himself among a wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. The 25-year-old has spent time on multiple teams' practice squads, but he's only appeared in two regular season NFL games -- both with San Francisco in 2021.

Joins Bengals

Patrick signed a contract with the Bengals on Thursday.

Analysis: Patrick previously spent time on the Bengals' practice squad during the 2020 season before bouncing around multiple teams' practice squads in 2021. The undrafted free agent was re-signed by Cincinnati after the team placed running back Elijah Holyfield on the reserve/injured list in a corresponding move Thursday. Therefore, Patrick should have an opportunity during training camp to compete for a spot with the Bengals - either on the practice squad or in a depth role alongside Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans.

Signed to Ravens' practice squad

Patrick was added to the Ravens' practice squad Tuesday, Clifton Brown from the Ravens' official website reports.

Analysis: The running back was waived from the Panthers' practice squad Dec. 21, but now has found a new squad prior to the last week of the regular season. Patrick was active for two games with the 49ers this season, operating mostly as a special-teams option in those contests.

Waived from practice squad

Patrick has been waived from the Panthers' practice squad, Darin Gantt of the team's official website reports.

Analysis: Patrick joined Carolina's practice squad earlier in the month. He will now be forced to look for a new opportunity. The 24-year-old also spent time with the 49ers practice unit this season.

Joining Panthers' practice squad

Patrick will sign with the Panthers' practice squad Monday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.

Analysis: Patrick spent time with the 49ers earlier in the year but was released from the team's practice squad in early November. The 24-year-old has rushed twice for 12 yards across two regular-season appearances this season, and he'll now attempt to carve out a role in Carolina.

Let go by 49ers

Patrick was released from the 49ers' practice squad Tuesday.

Analysis: Patrick was waived by San Francisco in mid-October but stuck around the team on the practice squad. With JaMycal Hasty now healthy and back in the fold and Jeff Wilson (knee) nearing his return from the PUP list, the 49ers have plenty of depth at running back for now.

Sticks with San Fran

Patrick was signed to the 49ers practice squad Monday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Analysis: Patrick was waived by the 49ers last week but will stick around the organization on the practice squad. He could rejoin the active roster of Elijah Mitchell, Trey Sermon or Trenton Cannon suffer an injury.

Waived by 49ers

Patrick was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday.

Analysis: Patrick suited up for San Francisco in its three previous games. He only saw action in Week 4 when he recorded two carries for 12 yards. He will now wait for a new opportunity, as Elijah Mitchell, Trey Sermon and Trenton Cannon are expected to handle running back duties for the team in the immediate future.

Takes over as backup

Patrick received two carries for 12 yards in Sunday's 28-21 loss to Seattle.

Analysis: Patrick made his second appearance with the 49ers, but this time around he got on the field for an offensive drive (six snaps). Trey Sermon still dominated the backfield playing time (51 percent of offensive snaps), but the big-framed back took over the backup duties after not receiving an offensive snap last week. Elijah Mitchell's (shoulder) status is still up in the air for Sunday's tilt against the Cardinals, so it will be interesting to see if Patrick's touches increase at all if he is asked to back up Sermon again.

Active, but doesn't see field

Patrick did not record a snap of any kind in Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Packers.

Analysis: The 49ers signed Patrick off of the Bengals' practice squad prior to Sunday's contest, and even dressed the running back for the Sunday Night Football matchup. Despite his active status, head coach Kyle Shanahan left the 24-year-old on the sidelines, opting to only use starter Trey Sermon and virtually every other position at tail back (fullback, wide receiver and tight end) before turning to his unproven backups. Even if the 49ers' backfield health doesn't improve prior to next Sunday's tilt against the Seahawks, fantasy managers should not be relying on Patrick.

Signs on with Niners

The 49ers will sign Patrick off the Bengals' practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: The 24-year-old is expected to get the chance to make his NFL debut Sunday against the Packers, more than two years after completing his collegiate career at Oklahoma. Patrick, a former XFL standout, will provide a much-needed healthy option to a 49ers backfield that currently has Raheem Mostert (knee) on injured reserve, Jeff Wilson (knee) on the PUP list and JaMycal Hasty (ankle) already ruled out for the Week 3 matchup. Additionally, top back Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) and Trey Sermon (concussion) are uncertain to be available Sunday, potentially paving the way for Patrick and/or Trenton Cannon to have sizable roles this weekend. If one or both of Mitchell or Sermon end up being ruled out, expect San Francisco to add an additional running back to the roster by the end of the week. While with the Bengals in the preseason, Patrick tallied 156 rushing yards and a touchdown on 31 attempts (5.0 per carry).

Pens future contract

The Bengals signed Patrick to a reserve/future contract Monday.

Analysis: Patrick has yet to make his NFL debut since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019. The Florida State product likely will need to succeed on special teams to secure a roster spot in 2021.

Tenure with Bengals cut short

Patrick was waived by the Bengals on Saturday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Patrick's success in the XFL ultimately earned him a three-year contract with the Bengals although the team quickly pivoted away from the 23-year-old after a mundane training camp. Expect Patrick to join Cincinnati's practice squad should he pass through waivers.
