Gresham will be released by the Cardinals later this week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Gresham has two seasons remaining on a four-year, $28 million contract that arguably makes him the most overpaid tight end in the league. He still has some value as a blocker, but he's averaged just 17.8 yards per game in 58 appearances for the Cardinals. The 30-year-old may have to settle for a backup role once he hits the open market.

Gresham reeled in nine of his 12 targets for 94 yards and one touchdowns in 13 games during the 2018 season.
Analysis: Gresham didn't have much problem seeing the field in his ninth pro season, ranking behind just Ricky Seals-Jones in terms of offensive snap share (44.3 versus 56.9 percent) among Cardinals tight ends. However, Gresham didn't come close to upholding his standard, production-wise, from three previous years in Arizona, setting career lows in all receiving categories. Gresham has two years remaining on a lucrative contract signed in March of 2017, but considering the lack of output in 2018, it wouldn't surprise if management explored getting out of the deal, despite significant dead-cap hits, per OverTheCap.com.

Gresham played 46 of the Cardinals' 53 snaps on offense during Sunday's 31-9 loss to the Rams. However, he wasn't targeted in the contest.
Analysis: Pass-catching tight end Ricky Seals-Jones dealt with food poisoning during Week 16 prep, and while he was active, he left after five offensive snaps and didn't return due to a stinger. Gresham and John Phillips (10 snaps on offense) got all the TE reps the rest of the way, but only the latter got in the box score, catching his only target for nine yards. In seven games since the Cards' Week 9 bye, Gresham has reeled in just three of five passes for 26 yards. When healthy, Seals-Jones is the only tight end in Arizona worth a look.
Dec 24, 2018 4:00 PM EST
Gresham caught his lone target for a 16-yard gain during Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: However modest the production, Sunday featured more yards for Gresham than the previous five outings combined. That's how dismal things have been for Gresham, and Arizona's offense more generally. Sunday offered another low-point as rookie Josh Rosen was benched late after three turnovers and back-to-back drives that generated negative yardage. Don't expect much better Sunday against a middle-of-the-pack Rams pass defense.
Dec 18, 2018 7:29 PM EST
Gresham caught his only target for two yards during Sunday's 45-10 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Gresham didn't have much of a chance to produce Week 12, with rookie quarterback Josh Rosen having totaled just over 100 passing yards on the day, but it's not as if his quiet performance was an anomaly. The veteran tight end has caught one or less passes in eight of nine starts this season. Gresham will remain firmly behind Ricky Seals-Jones heading into Sunday's tilt against the Packers.
Nov 26, 2018 12:54 PM EST
Gresham caught one of his two targets for an eight-yard gain during Sunday's 23-21 loss to Oakland.
Analysis: It was the seventh time in eight games this season that Gresham came away with one or no catches. Ricky Seals-Jones is the primary weapon at tight end in Arizona and even he has been inconsistent in his performances. Sunday brings a Chargers defense that has been on the rise in recent weeks.
Nov 20, 2018 12:47 PM EST
Gresham played 29 (on 73) offensive snaps during Sunday's 26-14 defeat in Kansas City.
Analysis: The breakdown of reps between Gresham and Ricky Seals-Jones depends on the week. On this occasion, the latter led the way with 46 snaps on offense, which he used to produce five catches (on nine targets) for 51 yards. Meanwhile, Gresham went without a target for the third time in seven games this season. He also is averaging just one target per contest in 2018, making him a fantasy nonentity in his ninth NFL campaign.

Gresham (back) is listed as active Sunday at Kansas City, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Despite elevating to full participation at Friday's practice, Gresham was listed as questionable for this game due to a back injury. By avoiding the inactive list Week 10, the 30-year-old will be available to the Cardinals offense, primarily as a blocker due to his meager mark of 1.2 targets per game this season.

Gresham (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest in Kansas City, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Gresham bumped up to full participation at Friday's practice, which is generally the basis for getting clearance to play. That said, the veteran tight end enters the weekend with a designation. If he's active Sunday, as he has been in each of the Cardinals' previous six games, Gresham will be little more than a fringe TE option due to his mark of 1.2 targets per outing.
Nov 9, 2018 2:21 PM EST
Gresham (back) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Scott Bordow of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gresham isn't carrying a designation of Achilles or heel for the first time since tearing the former Week 17 of last season. However, the 30-year-old tight end continues to tend to some bumps and bruises after enjoying a Week 9 bye. Look for Gresham to serve primarily in a blocking role due to the protection issues of the offensive line, with only the occasional target due to the presence of pass-catching TE Ricky Seals-Jones.
Nov 7, 2018 3:33 PM EST
Gresham reeled in all three passes for 22 yards during Sunday's 18-15 win against the 49ers.
Analysis: A late addition to the Week 8 injury report, Gresham's heel injury was a callback to his season-ending torn Achilles from the 2017 finale. He brushed it off, though, and logged 31 offensive snaps versus 48 for fellow tight end Ricky Seals-Jones, who recorded two catches (on four targets) for 12 yards. Gresham's catch rate of 85.7 percent this season can't be denied, but with just seven targets in six games, his lack of volume keeps him on the outside looking in.
Oct 30, 2018 5:22 PM EST
Gresham (heel) is active for Sunday's game versus the 49ers, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: In Week 7 against the Broncos, Gresham earned more offensive snaps than fellow tight end Ricky Seals-Jones (39 to 29) for the first time this season. Nevertheless, Seals-Jones remains the preferred receiver at the position, recording 10 catches to Gresham's three in the veteran's five appearances so far. Expect much of the same with Gresham primarily focused on blocking duties.
Oct 28, 2018 12:03 PM EST
Gresham (heel) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Analysis: Gresham didn't make an appearance on the Cardinals' injury report until Friday, when he was listed as limited. He likely is dealing with the residual effects of his torn Achilles from Week 17 of last season, but his availability for Week 8 will be watched to see if he can play Sunday. If not, Ricky Seals-Jones would serve as the primary tight end.
Oct 26, 2018 2:00 PM EST
Gresham wasn't targeted while playing 39 of 66 offensive snaps during Thursday's 45-10 loss to the Broncos.
Analysis: Since returning to action Week 3, Gresham's practice reps have been monitored closely to ensure no aggravation of his Achilles. On Thursday, he officially earned more snaps in a given game than fellow tight Ricky Seals-Jones (29) for the first time this season, but the younger option again made an impact in the box score (two catches for 12 yards on four targets). On the season, Gresham has hauled in three of four passes for 46 yards in five games, indicating he's primarily used as a blocker at this stage in his career.
Oct 21, 2018 4:15 PM EST
Gresham (Achilles) doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Thursday's matchup against the Broncos, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: After logging two limited practices Monday and Tuesday, Gresham was able to get in a full practice Wednesday. Gresham has yet to catch more than one pass and earn more than 30 yards in a game, but has logged over 25 offensive snaps in each of the last three games.
Oct 17, 2018 12:54 PM EST
Gresham (Achilles) was a limited practice participant Tuesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Among the Cardinals' options at tight end, Ricky Seals-Jones again dominated the targets -- six, which he turned into five catches for 69 yards -- and logged the most offensive snaps (39 of 58) during Sunday's 27-17 loss at Minnesota. Meanwhile, Gresham gathered in his only target for 26 yards, with his usage (30 on offense, or 51.7 percent) in line with his share from the previous two games. As such, he appears to have settled into a modest role as a blocker with the occasional look from rookie quarterback Josh Rosen. Expect much of the same Thursday versus the Broncos, assuming Gresham is active.
Oct 16, 2018 2:00 PM EST
Gresham (Achilles) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game at Minnesota, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Gresham is a candidate to land on the injury report all season after suffering a torn Achilles in Week 17 of last season. No matter, he'll be hard-pressed to pass Ricky Seals-Jones in the pecking order for targets among Cardinals tight ends.
Oct 12, 2018 2:52 PM EST
Gresham (Achilles) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: After no practice Wednesday, Gresham's showing Thursday should allay concerns about the veteran tight end, who is a little more than nine months removed from tearing his Achilles. His workload the past three games has read 34, 55 and 54.9 percent of the offensive snaps, but targets have been few and far between. With a stat line of 2-20-0 on three targets, Gresham is clearly taking a back seat to Ricky Seals-Jones (10-123-1 on 25 targets).
Oct 11, 2018 2:48 PM EST
Gresham (Achilles) didn't practice Wednesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: This might be indicative of a minor setback, considering Gresham was a limited practice participant the past two Wednesdays. It's also possible the Cardinals are just making more of an effort to manage his workload as he tries to regains his top form after suffering an Achilles tear Week 17 last season. Gresham has caught two of three targets for 20 yards in three games this year, averaging 26 snaps per contest. His part-time role in a struggling offense is unlikely to yield any fantasy utility.
Oct 10, 2018 3:04 PM EST
Gresham (Achilles) was a full participant in Friday's practice, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: By concluding the week with a full practice session, Gresham will avoid a questionable tag heading into Sunday's matchup with the 49ers. Gresham essentially split the tight-end work with Ricky Seals-Jones in the Week 4 loss to the Seahawks, with the former logging 33 offensive snaps to the latter's 39. It's possible that Gresham takes on a heavier snap count as he becomes further removed from the Achilles injury, but Seals-Jones would likely still offer the higher pass-catching upside of the two.
