Free-agent quarterback Matt Corral is signing with the Minnesota Vikings after they placed first-round selection J.J. McCarthy (knee) on Injured Reserve. McCarthy suffered a torn meniscus earlier this week and underwent season-ending surgery as a result. Corral will likely compete with Jaren Hall for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart as Sam Darnold is slated to start and Nick Mullens to serve as the backup. Corral was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Corral then joined New England but never once saw the field with these two teams. Fantasy managers should expect Jaren Hall to serve as the No.3 quarterback in Minnesota as he started in Week 17 last season and served as the emergency quarterback on several occasions, but if Corral looks sharp in the preseason, he could make the final roster.

The New England Patriots have signed quarterback Matt Corral to their practice squad, according to beat writer Doug Kyed. Corral was with the Carolina Panthers during the preseason but was released on August 31 before signing with the Pats. New England then waived Corral on September 9 but he ended up clearing waivers, so he's back with the team. Bailey Zappe is the primary backup to Mac Jones while Corral and rookie Malik Cunningham are emergency/practice squad options for New England.

Quarterback Matt Corral signed with the New England Patriots' practice squad on Tuesday. Corral was released by the team 10 days ago but found his way back and will now bide his time on the practice squad while Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe fill out the active 53-man roster. Corral could see some playing time this season, but both Jones and Zappe would have to get injured ahead of him.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Patriots released quarterback Matt Corral on Saturday. The team recently claimed the signal-caller after the Panthers waived him at the end of August. However, he'll now look for work elsewhere, although there's a chance he could land on a practice squad for another club, at the very least. In a corresponding move, the Patriots signed Bailey Zappe back to the 53-man roster, where he is expected to serve as the No. 2 option on the depth chart behind Mac Jones.

The New England Patriots claimed former Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral off waivers on Thursday, according to a source. The Panthers waived the former third-round pick in 2022 after he missed his entire rookie season due to a left foot injury he suffered last preseason. Corral figures to open the 2023 regular season as Mac Jones' primary backup, with both Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham serving as more QB depth on New England's practice squad. Corral was let go in Carolina after the team drafted Bryce Young with the first overall pick and brought in veteran Andy Dalton to be his backup in the offseason.

Second-year quarterback Matt Corral is being waived by the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday. It looked like Corral made the team's 53-man roster after Tuesday's cutdown deadline, but he is being released just a day later. The Ole Miss product will now head to waivers. If he is unclaimed, there's a chance he'll be back with Carolina as a member of the practice squad. The 2022 third-round pick missed his entire rookie season with a Lisfranc injury and is not likely to see playing time for any organization in the near future.
