Buccaneers Expected to Discuss Extension With Baker Mayfield This Offseason

Tuesday, March 24, 10:40 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to discuss a contract extension with quarterback Baker Mayfield this offseason, league sources told Jeff Howe of The Athletic. Mayfield's three-year, $100 million deal expires in March of 2027. Howe adds that Mayfield's next contract won't necessarily be team-friendly after he has proven his worth as the team's franchise QB. He is currently the 16th-highest-paid signal-caller at $33.3 million per year. Mayfield and the Bucs have both publicly stated their desire to stay together beyond his current contract. It remains to be seen if Tampa is willing to give him at least $50 million annually after he regressed in 2025 with totals of 3,693 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 17 starts. Still, Lowe thinks he'd be justified in asking for four years and $224 milion or five years and $280 million, with at least half fully guaranteed. In fantasy football, Mayfield will be considered a low-end QB1/high-end QB2 option, with his upside limited now that he doesn't have future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans to throw to.

Caleb Williams News

Caleb Williams Looking to Build Off Second-Year Breakout

Wednesday, March 18, 4:58 PM

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams had a breakout season during his second year in the NFL. The former No. 1 pick helped lead the Bears to the playoffs while throwing for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 383 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. The USC product's 30 total touchdowns and eight total turnovers represent an impressive ratio, reflecting not only his ability to dominate in fantasy football but also in the NFL. Part of Williams' ascension can be credited to the arrival of head coach Ben Johnson, who elevated the Bears' offense as a whole. Chicago was firing on all cylinders in 2025, and that should continue in Johnson's second season (and Williams' third) in 2026. The departure of wide receiver DJ Moore is notable, but it likely won't have a major effect on Williams, given how well Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Colston Loveland are developing. With a strong offensive line and group of pass-catchers at his disposal, Williams will be right back in the mix to repeat his QB5 finish from last year.
