Lions Place Brock Wright on Injured Reserve

Thursday, December 4, 6:25 PM

The Detroit Lions announced on Thursday before their game against the Dallas Cowboys that they placed tight end Brock Wright (neck) on Injured Reserve. In corresponding moves, the team signed cornerback Nick Whiteside to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad and also elevated wide receiver Malik Cunningham from the practice squad. Wright will join Sam LaPorta (back) on IR and won't be eligible to return until the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Chicago Bears on Jan. 4. With both Wright and LaPorta sidelined, Ross Dwelley figures to see the most TE snaps for the Lions, with Anthony Firkser also being involved. Both tight ends are more of blockers than pass-catchers, though, and should be avoided in most fantasy football leagues. In last week's loss to the Packers, Dwelley and Firkser combined for two catches on four targets for just seven yards.

Jake Tonges News

Head Coach Says Jake Tonges' MCL Injury Doesn't Look Good

Thursday, September 10, 8:36 PM

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges' knee injury "does not look good," head coach Kyle Shanahan told Vic Tafur of The Athletic. Shanahan added that Tonges injured his MCL, and he'll undergo additional testing to confirm the diagnosis. The 27-year-old suffered the injury while attempting to set a block on Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett during Thursday's Week 1 victory. Tonges finished the game without a target, and since George Kittle had his workload monitored, the 49ers gave more snaps to third-string tight end Luke Farrell. Ultimately, Farrell caught two passes for 19 yards, leading the tight end room in total yardage. Assuming Shanahan's fears are confirmed, Tonges is likely facing an extended absence. Farrell would take on a larger role, and Kittle should also get back to a near-full workload in Week 2.
