Ihmir Smith-Marsette Injures Ankle

Saturday, August 24, 9:36 PM

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette (ankle) left the team's preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills early on Saturday after landing awkwardly completing a catch in the second quarter. The 24-year-old hauled in 2-of-3 targets for 11 yards while contributing 27 yards on two punt returns and a field-flipping 46 yards on his lone kick return. Smith-Marsette was productive before he picked up the injury and is expected to be the team's returner this upcoming season. Barring the severity of his ankle issue, that could still be the case. It's a bit early to tell how impactful the NFL's new kickoff rules will be come the start of the regular season. However, fantasy managers may want to keep the Iowa product on their radar as a sneaky option, depending on how your league values return yards. His Yahoo! ADP is far down enough that he'd be best suited as a prospective waiver-wire add.

Ramel Keyton News

Ramel Keyton Leads Raiders In Receiving Yards Against 49ers

Saturday, August 24, 10:29 AM

Las Vegas Raiders rookie wide receiver Ramel Keyton turned heads with a team-leading four receptions for 76 yards in the Raiders' preseason finale against the San Francisco 49ers. While this performance certainly helps his case for making the 53-man roster, fantasy managers need to maintain perspective. Even if Keyton survives final cuts, he'll be buried behind established veterans and higher draft picks on the depth chart. His impressive 19.0 yards per catch average in this game hints at big-play ability, but opportunities to showcase this in the regular season will likely be few and far between. Keyton is competing for one of the final receiver spots, which typically translates to special teams duties rather than offensive snaps. For fantasy purposes, Keyton is nothing more than a name to file away in case of multiple injuries to the Raiders' receiving corps during the season. He's not draftable in any fantasy format at this time.
