The Dallas Cowboys still don't know how their running back situation is going to materialize in 2025, writes The Athletic's Saad Yousuf. The Cowboys signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency. Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke are returning, but neither is guaranteed a roster spot out of training camp. The team likes the explosiveness that rookie fifth-rounder Jaydon Blue brings to the table after the Cowboys ranked dead-last in the NFL in 20-plus-yard runs in 2024. Blue's receiving abilities -- he led FBS RBs in 2024 with six receiving touchdowns -- are also something that Dallas will look to find ways to use. Neither Williams nor Sanders will be handed a significant role, so Blue will have a chance to prove himself in what is shaping up to be more of a RB committee. Ball security and pass protection will be things Blue will need to clean up if he wants to jump onto the fantasy radar in 2025.

ESPN's Ben Baby reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have restructured defensive back Geno Stone's contract. The speculation is that Cincinnati is clearing cap space in order to sign defensive end Trey Hendrickson to a lucrative deal, though that has not been confirmed. Stone's new deal is a one-year, $4.9 million agreement netting him roughly $1.6 million less in 2025. However, $1.5 million will be guaranteed. The 26-year-old has appeared in every contest over the past three seasons and notched a new personal best with 81 tackles. Additionally, he's recorded 11 interceptions since the start of 2023. If this move is to make room for another massive contract, then it's undoubtedly a smart one for the Bengals -- holding on to a productive asset at a discounted price while retaining their star player.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed 16 undrafted rookie free agents after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL draft last month. The names they added were wide receiver Elijhah Badger (Florida), tight end Jake Briningstool (Clemson), safety Will Brooks (Tennessee), offensive lineman Dalton Cooper (Oklahoma State), cornerback Jacobe Covington (USC), punter Eddie Czaplicki (USC), wide receiver Mac Dalena (Fresno State), linebacker Brandon George (Pittsburgh), defensive tackle Coziah Izzard (Penn State), cornerback Kevin Knowles (Florida State), wide receiver Justin Lockhart (San Jose State), defensive back Glendon Miller (Maryland), offensive tackle Esa Pole (Washington State), cornerback Melvin Smith Jr. (Southern Arkansas), tight end Tre Watson (Texas A&M) and running back Elijah Young (Western Kentucky). All the additions face an uphill battle to make the final 53- man roster, but they'll look to impress the coaching staff in training camp this summer.

Washington D.C. will host the NFL draft in 2027 on the National Mall, where the Washington Monument stands, a source told The Washington Post's Mark Maske. An official announcement is expected to come Monday at the White House. The draft will be held in Pittsburgh next year in 2026. This will be the first time that Washington has hosted an NFL draft. After owner Josh Harris bought the Commanders franchise in July of 2023, the team went from 4-13 in his first year to 12-5 and in the NFC Championship game this past season under first-year general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. Washington announced a deal on April 28 that would bring the organization back to the stadium it called home from 1961-96, but the nearly $4 million deal for a new stadium still must be approved by the D.C. council.

Dallas Cowboys third-round rookie cornerback Shavon Revel (knee) was able to take part in walkthroughs during last week's rookie minicamp as he recovers from a torn ACL that he suffered last September at East Carolina. "Right now I can pretty much do everything," Revel said. "Running straight line, cutting, haven't gotten too much into that, just trying to take it day by day, trying to take it slow." If not for the injury, the 23-year-old certainly would have gone earlier in the 2025 NFL draft. Despite the fact that he appears to be making good progress, executive vice president Stephen Jones said that Revel will start training camp this summer on the Physically Unable to Perform list. It's unlikely that Revel will be ready to go for Week 1 of his rookie season, but eventually he'll provide a boost to Dallas' secondary and could turn out to be an excellent value pick for the Cowboys.

The Seattle Seahawks were busy on Friday before the start of their rookie minicamp and signed 17 undrafted free agents. Their undrafted free-agent class is defense-heavy, with 11 players coming from the defensive side. Their 2025 undrafted free-agent class includes cornerbacks Zy Alexander (LSU) and Isas Waxter (Villanova), wide receiver Tyrone Broden (Arkansas), linebackers Seth Coleman (Illinois), Jalan Gaines (Illinois State), Jared Ivy (Mississippi), Connor O'Toole (Utah) and Jackson Woodard (UNLV), defensive end T.J. Jackson (West Virginia), tight ends Nick Kallerup (Minnesota) and Marshall Lang (Northwestern), tackle Amari Kight (Central Florida), center Federico Maranges (Florida Atlantic), nose tackles Demeco Roland (Southern Mississippi), J.R. Singleton (Iowa State) and Bubba Thomas (South Alabama), and running back Jacardia Wright (Missouri State).

The Philadelphia Eagles signed undrafted rookie free-agent wide receivers Darius Cooper (Tarleton State) and Taylor Morin (Wake Forest), running backs Montrell Johnson (Florida) and Shunderrick Powell (Central Arkansas), linebacker Lance Dixon (Toledo), defensive backs Maxen Hook (Toledo), Brandon Johnson (Oregon), and BJ Mayes (Texas A&M), and offensive lineman (Hollin Pierce (Rutgers) on Friday. Cooper finished second in Division 1 last year with 1,450 receiving yards and sixth in touchdowns with 14. He had 164 catches for 3,185 yards and 29 touchdowns in 48 career games. Johnson will add depth to Philly's backfield after rushing for 2,251 yards and 21 TDs in his three seasons with the Gators. Morin was Wake Forest's all-time leading receiver with 2,974 yards. He also finished second all-time in school history in catches (227) and fourth in touchdowns (21).

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that she's getting good vibes coming from the Cincinnati Bengals that they are going to try and get a deal done with All-Pro pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. Some people saw the Bengals' drafting of edge rusher Shemar Stewart in the first round in last week's NFL draft as a sign of the end of the Hendrickson era in Cincinnati, but that might not be the case at all. The Bengals already signed receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to big extensions this offseason, but Hendrickson is still left out in the cold. The 30-year-old veteran was given permission to seek a trade, but Cincy has been asking for a ton in return, which is why nothing has gone down on that front. If Hendrickson signs an extension with the Bengals, it will likely be a hometown discount. Hendrickson has made the Pro Bowl each of the last four seasons and led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024.

Per The Athletic's Daniel Popper, the Los Angeles Chargers chose not to exercise offensive lineman Zion Johnson's fifth-year option for the 2026 season, according to a source. Johnson will now become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming 2025 campaign. The Bolts chose the 25-year-old offensive guard with the 17th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft out of Boston College, and he has started all 49 regular-season games that he's appeared in over his first three seasons in the league. The Chargers declining his fifth-year option doesn't mean that the two sides won't eventually agree on a new deal in the future. Johnson should be a starter at either left guard or at center for the Bolts in 2025 in his fourth NFL season.

The Philadelphia Eagles declined the fifth-year option for the 2026 season on offensive guard Kenyon Green, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Green will now become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025 season. The Eagles acquired Green from the Houston Texans in March in exchange for defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson and a sixth-round pick. It's no surprise that Philly didn't pick up Green's fifth-year option, as he was a disappointment in his three years in Houston and missed all of the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury. The 24-year-old former 15th overall pick in 2022 by the Texans out of Texas A&M only played in 12 games (nine starts) in 2024 in his final season in Houston. Green also dealt with injuries in 2024 and ended last year on the bench.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are not picking up the fifth-year option for the 2026 season on linebacker Devin Lloyd, a league source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Lloyd will now become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025 campaign. The 26-year-old linebacker was taken with the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft out of Utah and has been very productive for the organization, tallying 100-plus combined tackles in all three of his NFL seasons, although he's been a liability in pass coverage. Lloyd has a total of 335 tackles (195 solo), two sacks, nine tackles for loss, eight QB hits, four interceptions, 19 pass breakups, a forced fumble and four fumble recoveries in 48 games (46 starts). He finished last year as the No. 30 fantasy linebacker in IDP formats and should be one of the team's leading tacklers again in 2025 if he stays healthy.

The New England Patriots are not picking up the fifth-year option for the 2026 season on offensive lineman Cole Strange, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The option for the 2026 season would have paid Strange around $16.7 million. The 26-year-old center is now in line to hit the open market after the 2025 season, unless the Patriots sign him to a long-term extension before then. He was the 29th overall pick by New England in the 2022 NFL draft out of Chattanooga. Strange started 17 games at left guard in his rookie season in 2022 but struggled with injuries in each of the past two seasons, playing in a combined 13 games (12 starts). He suited up for only three games (two starts) last year. Now that he's back to full health in advance of the 2025 campaign, he's expected to serve in a backup role behind newcomer Garrett Bradbury.
May 1, 2025 12:05 AM EST
The Green Bay Packers have officially picked up defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt's fifth-year option ahead of the May 1 deadline, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Wyatt was the No. 28 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia and has tallied 74 tackles (43 solo), 12 sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and 12 run stuffs in 47 career games. The 300-pounder has pass-rush skills from the interior that are valuable to any defense. He is now locked in with the organization through the 2026 campaign and will earn $12.9 million guaranteed on the final year of his rookie deal.

The Baltimore Ravens announced on Wednesday that they are exercising the fifth-year option for the 2026 season on safety Kyle Hamilton, according to general manager Eric DeCosta. The GM also said that the team is open to working out a long-term contract extension with Hamilton. It's no surprise for Hamilton, who has been a Pro Bowler each of the last two years and a first-team All-Pro in 2023. The 24-year-old defensive back had a career-high 107 tackles (77 solo), two sacks, six QB hits, one interception, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 17 regular-season starts last year. Hamilton's numbers last year were good enough to make him a top-10 defensive back in IDP fantasy formats. He had double-digit tackles in five regular-season games and played every snap in nine contests. Hamilton will be a must-start defensive back in IDP lineups again in 2025.

On Saturday, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters that the team would not pick up offensive lineman Evan Neal's fifth-year option. The 24-year-old was the seventh overall pick for New York in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he was seen as a solid prospect during his college career. However, he's had trouble getting it together at the NFL level and has yet to live up to his first-round billing. In 2024, Neal was surpassed by free agent acquisition Jermaine Eluemunor on the depth chart, appearing in nine games (seven starts). The Giants are expected to try the Florida native out at guard this season, hoping to find another home for him, though it remains to be seen if he will stick. 2025 projects to be his final season with the team.
Apr 28, 2025 3:58 PM EST
On Saturday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that the team could still add help at the wide receiver position via free agency despite not addressing their need during the draft. "It definitely was a big-time thought," said Jones, " but the train has not left the station if improvement is needed from what we've got on campus." Instead of a flashy offensive skill player selection in Round 1, Dallas opted for offensive lineman Tyler Booker, and continued beefing up the trenches and their defense instead of drafting a complementary wideout to pair with superstar CeeDee Lamb. However, it appears they may not be done yet. In addition to signing undrafted free agent WRs Traeshon Holden and Josh Kelly from Oregon and Texas Tech, respectively, Jones hasn't closed the door on addressing the need in free agency. Notable names remaining unsigned are Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper, with the latter being an intriguing fit considering his familiarity with the organization and quarterback Dak Prescott.

The Detroit Lions have acquired the 57th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft from the Denver Broncos. In full, the Lions received picks No. 57 and 230 while the Broncos received picks No. 60 and 130. Denver has been busy on Day 2 of the draft, as they originally moved down from No. 51 to No. 57 through a trade with the Carolina Panthers. Now, they're moving down once again. They'll drop three picks in the second round, but they also move up 100 slots from the seventh round to the fourth round. So far, Denver has made just one selection cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round, but they have also picked up plenty of mid-to-late-round picks. Notably, the Broncos have been very vocal about their plans to draft a running back, so perhaps that selection will come soon. In the meantime, the Lions will make their second pick of the draft a little sooner than originally expected. Their first-round pick on Thursday was defensive tackle Tyleik Williams.

The Carolina Panthers have acquired the 51st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft from the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN's Field Yates. In full, eight picks are being swapped to complete this trade. Carolina acquired the 51st, 84th, 122nd, and 208th overall picks. Meanwhile, the Broncos received the 57th, 74th, 111th, and 230th selections. Carolina didn't possess its own second-round pick, so this will be their first selection of Day 2. On the opening night of the draft, they selected Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.

The Buffalo Bills have traded up to the 41st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. In full, Buffalo acquired the 41st, 72nd, and 240th picks from the Chicago Bears in exchange for the 56th, 62nd, and 109th picks. The Bills drafted cornerback Maxwell Hairston with their own pick in the first round Thursday, and now they're making an aggressive trade to move up in the second round. The deal also arms Chicago with two new second-round picks, plus a fourth-round selection. The Bears have been very devoted to improving their offense so far, selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland and Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden. UPDATE: Buffalo took South Carolina defensive tackle T.J. Sanders with the 41st overall pick.
