John Bates News
Sunday, August 2, 11:54 AM
Washington Commanders tight end John Bates (hamstring) will miss a couple of weeks after straining his hamstring during Thursday's practice, according to Ben Standig. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the timetable Saturday. Bates caught 11 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown in 15 games last season, but his bigger role comes as Washington's primary blocking tight end. That makes his absence more important to the offense than his receiving numbers suggest, especially with new coordinator David Blough expected to use multiple-tight-end sets. Chig Okonkwo and Ben Sinnott should handle more work while Bates is sidelined, while Colson Yankoff and Lawrence Cager could also see additional practice reps. Bates does not carry much standalone fantasy value, and this injury is unlikely to create a clear waiver target. It does give Washington's other tight ends more time to earn roles before he returns. The initial timetable leaves room for Bates to get back during the preseason.

Luke Musgrave News
Tuesday, August 18, 6:01 AM
Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave (neck) is currently on the physically unable to perform list due to a neck injury sustained during the team's mandatory minicamp in June, and there's a growing belief he could carry the designation into the regular season. In a recent 53-man roster projection, CHTV co-founder Aaron Nagler and Justis Mosqueda of Acme Packing Company have Musgrave starting the regular season on the PUP list, making him ineligible to play in the team's first four games. Multiple tight end sets project to be a major part of the Packers offense in 2026, but with Musgrave potentially unavailable to begin the year and Tucker Kraft (knee) facing a potential snap count as he works back from the ACL injury that ended his 2025 campaign, that plan could be put on pause. With the team potentially leaning on three-receiver sets early in the season, the trio of Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Jayden Reed all become attractive targets at their current draft costs.
