Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph (arm) will not be cleared to practice until training camp this summer while he recovers from an arm injury. Joseph suffered the arm injury during the NFC Championship game loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and it's going to keep him out of workouts this spring. But as long as the 23-year-old doesn't suffer a setback when he gets back on the field in training camp, he should be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season and will operate as Detroit's starting free safety. The former third-rounder in 2022 out of Illinois has recorded 164 tackles (124 solo), eight interceptions, 19 passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 32 games (29 starts) in his first two years in the NFL. When healthy, Joseph is on the fantasy radar in IDP leagues for depth at the DB position.

Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre has had a disappointing 2023, but he could be in for a better game in Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Texans vs. Jaguars game has the highest projected point total of the weekend, and the Jaguars, a slight favorite, could throw the ball frequently. Fantasy safeties against the Jaguars score more points than average. After leading all defensive backs in tackles his rookie season, Pitre is having a down year, with just 31 tackles. He has missed 20.4% of the tackles he has attempted. Last season, Pitre also missed a lot of tackles and was not graded well for his play, but he racked up fantasy points in part because the Texans' defense was so bad that they were always on the field and had to rely on their safeties for tackles. This year, the Texans' defensive improvement has hurt Pitre's production. However, he is a viable start in Week 12.
