Malik Davis News
Thursday, July 23, 7:15 AM
ESPN's Todd Archer writes that there will be a battle for the No. 2 running back role in training camp this summer behind starter Javonte Williams that will consist of Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah, and Malik Davis. Davis won the job a year ago and had a 100-yard game, but he "seems to be something of a forgotten man entering camp." The 27-year-old former undrafted free agent out of the University of Florida had 52 carries for 250 yards and two touchdowns in his third NFL season in 2025, adding two receptions for 16 yards for the Cowboys. It sounds as though Davis is going to need to step up in camp to hold off both Blue and Mafah. Blue didn't live up to expectations in his rookie campaign, but he has impressed the coaching staff this offseason and can be a difference-maker with his speed. Mafah, a seventh-rounder last year, could also be a dependable depth back. Davis averaged a healthy 4.8 yards in 2025, but he doesn't have any standout traits in the backfield and isn't much of a pass-catcher. Don't automatically assume that he's the handcuff to roster in 2026 if you take Williams.

Isaiah Davis News
Sunday, August 16, 6:00 PM
New York Jets running back Isaiah Davis (knee) continues to be a massive question mark, and he missed the team's preseason opener on Friday due to a knee injury. While it's tough to knock Davis' fantasy stock for a relatively minor injury, we can't ignore the fact that his absence might have hurt his standing in the running back room, especially since teammate Braelon Allen was active on Friday and broke off a 31-yard touchdown run. Allen might have an early leg up on the competition to be the Jets' No. 2 running back behind Breece Hall, leaving Davis in an unfavorable third-string role. If that's the case, he'll have trouble carving out any sort of fantasy value as long as Hall and Allen are healthy. With that being said, a lot can change between now and Week 1 of the regular season, so dynasty managers should keep Davis on the back end of their rosters if they have the space. He's an unappealing option in redraft leagues, though.
