Michael Penix Jr. News

Michael Penix Jr. Hopes to be Cleared Soon

Thursday, August 20, 5:20 PM

According to Tori McElhaney, senior reporter for the Atlanta Falcons, Falcons 26-year-old 2024 first-round pick Michael Penix Jr. (knee) was asked about his timeline for return and said on July 29 that his doctor wanted to give him four more weeks at that clearance level "before going to the next stage." Throughout this timeframe, Penix has been participating in individual drills, one-on-ones with pass catchers, and seven-on-sevens. Now that we are approaching that four-week mark, Penix is trending towards further conversations with the doctor, in hopes of being cleared soon and competing for the starting role. The Falcons brought in former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year, $1.3 million contract in March, and although Penix has missed valuable camp reps, head coach Kevin Stefanski has not officially named a starting quarterback for the regular season. Penix figures to see the field at some point during the season; however, due to missing some time in camp, Tagovailoa appears to be in the driver's seat. Penix is not on the fantasy radar in one-quarterback leagues, but remains someone to keep an eye on in superflex and dynasty formats. Rotoballer ranks him as the QB36 off the board.

Shedeur Sanders News

Shedeur Sanders Not Feeling the Pressure in Browns' QB Battle

Wednesday, August 19, 10:51 AM

Cleveland Browns second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders said on Wednesday that he's not feeling pressure ahead of a joint practice with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday and his start in the team's second preseason game at home on Saturday against the Bills, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. Head coach Todd Monken has not revealed a timeline for naming a starter at the QB position between Sanders and Deshaun Watson, but he said he might use the preseason finale against the New England Patriots as a dress rehearsal. It leaves this week's practices and Saturday's game as the final chances for Sanders to leave an impression on the new head coach. "I don't really feel anxiety or any pressure going into things like that anymore, because that's how I approach everything. So, it's just another day of going to work. That's all it is for me," Sanders said. The son of former NFL star cornerback Deion Sanders, Shedeur threw for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in eight games (seven starts) as a rookie after falling all the way to the fifth round in last year's NFL draft. If the 24-year-old wins the job over Watson, he'll become a low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in superflex leagues with a short leash if he struggles.
