Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said that rookie Andre Szmyt will kick for the team on Sunday in Week 2 against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens and said he expects the young kicker to get better. In his NFL debut in the one-point loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, Szmyt missed one of his two extra-point tries and also missed a 36-yard field-goal attempt that would have given Cleveland a lead in the fourth quarter on Sunday. The Browns are sticking with the Syracuse product for now, but if he continues to struggle, it will be interesting to see how long a leash Stefanski gives him. Szmyt connected on a field goal over 40 yards in his other try in his first regular-season NFL game. For fantasy purposes, stay away from the young kicker.

Cleveland Browns kicker Andre Szmyt will open the 2025 season with a home game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. In a bit of a surprise, Szmyt won the starting kicker job over Dustin Hopkins, who had been Cleveland's kicker the past two seasons and had signed a three-year, $15.9 million extension ahead of the 2024 season. Szmyt will now go up against a Cincinnati defense that allowed just the 26th-most fantasy points per game to opposing kickers last season. The 26-year-old sets up as a low-end fantasy option heading into Week 1.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Cleveland Browns have signed free agent placekicker Andre Szmyt to a one-year $840,000 contract. Szmyt was on Cleveland's roster this offseason until the team waived him earlier in the month. However, he's back now with the release of defensive lineman Ogbo Okoronkwo earlier in the day. The Syracuse product has yet to attempt a kick on an NFL field, but will compete with veteran teammate Dustin Hopkins for the Browns' starting job. In college, Szmyt was 85-for-105 (81%) on field goal attempts and hit extra-point tries at a stellar 98% clip.
