Gets cut Tuesday

Coleman was waived from the Chiefs' practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Coleman spent training camp with the Chiefs before ultimately being cut, and then signed to their practice squad. The 2016 first round selection hasn't played an NFL snap since 2018 with the Giants. He'll work to find an opportunity elsewhere, so he can get back on an NFL roster.

Joins Kansas City's practice squad

The Chiefs signed Coleman to their practice squad Tuesday.

Analysis: Coleman was released by the Chiefs ahead of the 53-man roster deadline after catching two of seven targets for 20 yards across two preseason contests. The 2016 first-round pick hasn't played in a regular-season contest since 2018, but he'll look to carve out a role on Kansas City's practice squad after sitting out the entire 2021 campaign.

Cut by Kansas City

The Chiefs released Coleman on Tuesday.

Analysis: Coleman didn't play at all in 2021 but signed a deal with Kansas City in March. The 2016 first-round pick caught two of seven targets for 20 yards across the final two preseason games, but the veteran didn't do enough to earn a spot on the Chiefs' initial 53-man roster.

Inking deal with KC

Coleman is signing with the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: The 2016 first-round pick spent much of 2020 on the Giants' practice squad and didn't play at all in 2021. Coleman turns 28 in July, and he'll merely be competing for a back-end roster spot at this point, hoping to eventually work his way up the depth chart for a talented Kansas City offense. He hasn't caught a pass since 2018, and has never reached even 500 receiving yards in a season.

Suspension uplifted

Coleman had his six-game suspension by the NFL uplifted on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Analysis: Coleman, a 2016 first-round pick, received a six-game suspension from the league following the 2020 season after violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy. He last saw regular action in 2018.

Six-game suspension

Coleman has been suspended for the first six games of the 2021 NFL season, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: The 2016 first-rounder -- who was cut from the Giants' practice squad in November -- last saw regular-season action in 2018 (with the Giants). Coleman will thus look to catch on as a depth wideout option once his PED-related suspension is complete.

Cut from Giants' practice squad

Coleman was released from the Giants' practice squad Tuesday.

Analysis: The 26-year-old signed to the practice squad in late October but is in search of a new team after spending about a month in New York. Coleman hasn't seen game action since appearing in eight games for the Giants in 2018.

Back in Big Apple

The Giants signed Coleman to the practice squad Tuesday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.

Analysis: Coleman played eight games with the Giants back in 2018 before tearing his ACL, and he hasn't played in an NFL game since. The 2016 first-round pick signed with the Giants back in March and was cut before the 2020 season began, but he'll get another chance in New York. The Giants have five wide receivers on the active roster, but C.J. Board (concussion) may not be ready for Week 8. Coleman could add depth if that's the case.

Visits Big Apple

The Giants brought Coleman in for a workout Thursday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Analysis: Coleman failed to make the Giants out of training camp, but with C.J. Board (concussion) dealing with injury, they elected to see if Coleman was worth another shot. The 2016 first-round pick has had a tough career since entering the league from Baylor, as he's suited up in just 27 games in his career, last season in the league when he suffered a torn ACL in training camp in 2018.

Cut by New York

Coleman was let go by the Giants on Sunday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: The Giants utilized claiming a few players off waviers Sunday, including receiver Damion Ratley, so Coleman was one of the players needed to make room. The 2016 first-round pick was coming off a torn ACL he suffered in Week 17 of the 2018 season but failed to make the roster. He'll likely remain with the team on the practice squad or look for an opportunity elsewhere around the league as a depth receiver.

Returning to Giants

The Giants re-signed Coleman on Monday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Coleman's pro career has been star-crossed since he was a first-round pick of the Browns in 2016. Overall, he's appeared in just 27 games to date and last played Week 17 of the 2018 season, the result of a torn ACL at the start of training camp last July. There's room to move up the WR depth chart with the Giants behind the top trio of Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate and Darius Slayton, but Coleman likely is destined to compete for the No. 1 kick returner job with Slayton and cornerback Corey Ballentine this offseason.

Interest from multiple teams

Coleman (knee) is expected to have multiple suitors in free agency according to an NFL executive, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Coleman, a free agent this offseason after tearing his ACL seven months ago, has been medically cleared by doctors and is expected to be a low-risk, high-reward signing for teams in need of depth at wide receiver. The 2016 first-round pick likely won't warrant more than a minimum-level contract given his injury history and relative lack of consistent success, but Coleman's combination of speed and youth (just 25 years old) will likely be enough to temp a NFL team in the near future.

Resumes running in rehab

Coleman (knee) has resumed running and is participating in rehab activities, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: Coleman is rehabbing a torn ACL suffered during training camp in July. It's encouraging to see the 2016 first-round pick, who is set to become a free agent this offseason, having already progressed enough in his recovery to resume running. Coleman is working to return to full health in time for the 2020 season.

Placed on injured reserve

The Giants placed Coleman (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Analysis: Coleman tore his ACL during training camp practice earlier this week, and now lands on season-ending IR. With Sterling Shepard (thumb) battling injury and Golden Tate (suspension) appealing a four-game ban, Coleman's absence is a legitimate blow to New York's receiving corps. The 2016 first-round pick will turn his attention towards getting fully healthy for 2020.

Tears ACL

Coleman suffered a torn ACL during Thursday's practice, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Analysis: Fellow Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered a broken thumb during the same session, leaving the team with shaky wideout depth after just two days of practice. With Coleman now set to miss the entire season, the competition for the No. 3 receiver job is whittled down to Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler, Darius Slayton (hamstring) and Russell Shepard. The Giants surely will take a look at the free-agent market and also may place some calls about trades.

May get No. 3 job

Coleman should have an opportunity to compete for the No. 3 job at wide receiver, Ralph Vacchiano of Sportsnet New York reports.

Analysis: Despite catching just five passes in eight games for the Giants last season, Coleman was tendered for $2.025 million as a restricted free agent in March. The decision hints at some degree of belief in the 24-year-old wideout, though it may be a matter of theoretical upside and special teams contributions rather than any expectation of pass-catching productivity. Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate are locked in as the Giants' top wide receivers, but neither can replace Odell Beckham as a downfield threat. Coleman obviously can't either, but he at least has similar traits to take the top off a defense if he can stay healthy and earn regular snaps. With no indication his Week 17 foot injury was serious, the 2016 first-round pick should head into the offseason program competing against Cody Latimer and Bennie Fowler, with the potential for a rookie or two to join the mix come May.

Receives tender from Giants

Coleman (foot) received a restricted free agent tender from the Giants on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: New York reportedly utilized an original round tender which is worth $2.025 million non-guaranteed, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, after Coleman caught five of eight targets for 71 yards and recorded 598 return yards on kickoffs over eight games with the team. The 24-year-old performed well in a limited role, so the move makes sense for the Giants as they would receive a first-round pick should another team sign him. Given the compensation required, Coleman should remain in New York for 2019.

Contributes as return man

Coleman caught five of eight targets for 71 yards across eight games with the Giants in 2018. He also recorded 598 yards returning kicks and 19 yards returning punts.

Analysis: Coleman did most of his damage as the Giants' top return man, averaging 26.0 yards on 23 kick returns, but did look solid when called upon as a depth receiver. He also carried the ball once for five yards. The 2016 first-round pick began what was a tumultuous 2018 season by being traded to the Bills, then had two stints on New England's practice squad without cracking the active roster, and finally carved out a role in New York on Oct. 25. It seems unlikely that Coleman will live up to his draft capital any time soon, but he managed to showcase some explosiveness in the regular season and is worth keeping an eye on. Coleman is set to become a free agent this offseason.

Picks up foot injury in finale

Coleman underwent an MRI on the foot injury he suffered during Sunday's 36-35 loss to the Cowboys, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Analysis: Coleman took a long and winding road from Cleveland to New York in 2018. First, the Browns dealt him to the Bills on Aug. 5, but he didn't do enough to earn a spot on the latter's 53-man roster. He followed that up with two stints on the Patriots' practice squad in September and one week on the Giants' practice squad in October before being promoted Oct. 25. From that point through the end of the year, he was active for the final eight games, gathering in five of eight passes for 71 yards, logging one carry for five yards, averaging 26.0 yards on 23 kick returns, and returning one punt for 19 yards. In the offseason, Coleman will be a restricted free agent, meaning the Giants can match any offer that he receives, barring a physical.

One reception Sunday

Coleman recorded one reception for eight yards in Sunday's loss to the Titans.

Analysis: Coleman plays a larger role on kick returns than he does on offense, as he racked up 91 return yards Sunday. However, with Russell Shepard (ankle) and Odell Beckham (quad) battling injuries, there's a chance Coleman could see expanded reps on offense Sunday in Indianapolis.
