Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson has failed to be a big part of his team's efforts to move the ball down the field in the passing game this season. Though he's caught three touchdowns in five games this season, he's made a series of crucial mistakes, such as losing a key fumble in Week 3 and failing to catch a close losses, pass that ended up as an interception in Week 5. Both those games ended up being one-score losses. It would probably serve Dallas well to ease back on Ferguson's targets and start getting the ball to WR Ryan Flournoy more -- he's shown excellent flashes of talent and his film is impressive. Ferguson has a lot of mistakes to clean up and not a lot of upside, as he's averaging just 20.4 receiving yards per game. The opposing Green Bay Packers, who Dallas will face in Week 6, are bottom-10 in fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends this season. Fantasy managers outside of dynasty leagues may want to look elsewhere for a starting TE this week.

But it's hard to trust a pass-catcher in fantasy after two minimally productive games in a row. Ferguson should be parked on benches in Week 6 -- Lamb was hardly targeted in the loss, yet that didn't lead to a big day for the struggling TE.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson has taken a backseat to star Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb for most of this season, as he typically does. Ferguson's two-touchdown, 20.3 PPR fantasy point game in Week 2 was the exception rather than the rule for him, as he's failed to eclipse double-digit PPR fantasy points in each other game. Cowboys RB Javonte Williams has done a great job punching the ball in at the goal line this season, and when he's been effective, Dallas hasn't had much need to pass the ball on goal-to-go plays. Ferguson does have three touchdown receptions this season, but his target share simply isn't enough to support consistent fantasy results. After four games, he ranks as just the TE20 in PPR fantasy football leagues, meaning he's better suited as an auxiliary piece for best ball leagues rather than an every-week starter in redraft. Football is too random a sport to predict the games in which he'll get touchdowns, and he's mired in a snare of too much target competition from Lamb and WR George Pickens. Ferguson is a solid start at TE in very deep leagues, but there are better options out there, even on waivers in many weeks. He's a mid-range TE2 for now.

And even starting running back Javonte Williams has seen more passes thrown his way than Ferguson through two games. The Ravens are a much stronger defense than that of the Commanders -- Washington's aging linebacker corps hasn't had much success slowing down tight ends in recent seasons. Ferguson is a boom-or-bust low-end TE1 with a very low floor and very high ceiling. Given the strength of the upcoming matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, he's a risky player to start in fantasy football leagues in Week 3.

In Week 3, a much stiffer linebacker group in the Baltimore Ravens should do a better job containing the fifth-year TE. He checks in as a low-end TE1 with upside.

Week 2 presents a theoretically easier matchup against the Washington Commanders, who struggled against the pass last season. Dallas' offense did well in both games in 2025, putting up a combined 74 points across two games. The Commanders didn't significantly bolster their secondary, either. But Ferguson is often an afterthought in the game plan, as he's not a huge difference-maker at his position. He's better left on the bench outside of deep dynasty leagues.
