Moody has had a solid, if unspectacular start to his career, hitting 21 of 24 field goal attempts and making all 58 of his league-leading extra-point tries. He ranks as the overall K17 while ranking 27th in field goal attempts as a result. Los Angeles is the 11th-most generous defense to opposing fantasy kickers this year and the weather forecast looks mild for Sunday. Moody is downgraded a bit this week mostly because San Francisco's offense is expected to be diminished with backup quarterback Sam Darnold slated to start, although Moody remains a decent option for week 18 championships and DFS plays.

The third-round pick has been two-for-two on field goals over the last two games. Both field goals were from over 40 yards, which broke a mid-season streak of six games without a 40-plus yarder. This week, Moody kicks against the Washington Commanders, the worst defense in the league by yardage. Moody likely has another one of his extra-point jamborees -- he leads the league -- but a good kicker on a team that spends as much time near the goalposts as San Francisco always has upside. Moody's 53 extra points made is just one behind league-leader Jason Sanders and has buoyed Moody's fantasy value in recent weeks. In Week 16, Moody will kick against the Baltimore Ravens, whose defense ranks 15th in fantasy points allowed to kickers. Baltimore's defense is excellent, but probably not so excellent that they keep San Francisco's elite offense out of their territory too often. Consider Moody a worthy start with more field goal ceiling than extra-point floor on Christmas night.

San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody visits Arizona to kickoff versus the Cardinals on Sunday. Last week against Seattle, Moody's only scoring happened on four extra points. It's been two games without a field goal for Moody which stings a bit for fantasy managers, but the only reason he hasn't gotten one is that he has gotten zero opportunities in that time. The 49ers have been so good at scoring touchdowns that Moody is near the bottom of the league in field goal attempts among season-long starters at just 20. Still, extra points count in fantasy and those will continue to provide Moody with a nice floor. Arizona's controlled environment coupled with San Francisco likely having little trouble getting into Cardinal territory make Moody a Top-5 option in Week 15.

A week after a disastrous performance in Cleveland in which he missed two crucial kicks, including a game-deciding fourth-quarter attempt, Moody missed his first field goal attempt in Minnesota from 40 yards away. Perhaps more importantly, he hit a then-crucial fourth-quarter 55-yard field goal to get San Francisco within five points. Had he missed that kick, the 49ers may have started to look elsewhere but as it stands, Moody will continue to be a top-10 kicker as long as he holds the job and the offense stays healthy enough to consistently get into opponent territory. Look for Moody to rebound with a plus performance against a mediocre scoring defense in a controlled environment. Although it might not be worthwhile to drop Moody or a bench player to pick up a better option at kicker, fantasy managers should temper their expectations of Moody this week.

This week he was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts from 27, 57, and 26 yards and made all three of his extra-point attempts. The one significant difference between last week and this week, though, was the impressive distance and accuracy on his first career 50+ yard attempt, which he made with plenty of distance to spare. With the successful day, Moody is starting to build a case for being a must-roster player in most fantasy leagues. It remains to be seen whether Moody can ascend to hang around perennial top fantasy producers like Justin Tucker, Harrison Butker, and Tyler Bass, but the 49ers brass certainly think so after spending a third-round pick on him in this year's draft. Last week's performance was a great start to that end. This week the 49ers should spend plenty of time in Rams territory in Los Angeles, given San Francisco's offensive firepower and swarming defense. Fantasy managers who aren't currently rostering one of the top names could do way worse than starting Moody in Week 2.

San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody (quad) should be able to play in Week 1, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers head coach told reporters on Wednesday that "Just as long as he doesn't have a setback. He's looking good now and I feel good about him. I'd be surprised if he's not there." The rookie kicker has been dealing with a quad injury but has been working out off to the side during practice this week. San Francisco was worried enough about his status late last week that they signed Matthew Wright to their practice squad. But it sounds like Moody is trending in the right direction and should be good to go for Sunday's tilt at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fantasy managers that are rostering Moody will want to keep tabs on the Niners injury report this weekend, however.
