Jets Place Jermaine Johnson on PUP List

The New York Jets announced on Saturday that they placed edge rusher Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) and wide receiver Irvin Charles (knee) on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. The team also placed linebacker Aaron Smith (undisclosed) on the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Johnson suffered a torn Achilles in Week 2 of last season and was unable to participate in OTAs or minicamp during the spring. However, head coach Aaron Glenn said that barring any setbacks, the 26-year-old defensive back should be ready for the start of the regular season in early September. The Jets can activate Johnson and Charles from the PUP list at any time during training camp. Johnson, a former first-rounder, was a Pro Bowler in 2023 when he had 55 tackles (36 solo), 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, an interception returned for a touchdown and seven pass breakups in 17 starts.

Jermaine Johnson Expects To Be Ready For OTAs

New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) said he will be ready for OTAs this offseason following an Achilles tear in Week 2 of the 2024 campaign. "I'll be ready to go by OTAs," Johnson said. "I spoke to the doc on Saturday and he said everything looks perfect. He said that thing ain't re-tearing. Everything is looking good. The explosion is coming back. I'm excited." The 2022 first-round pick had a lackluster rookie season with just 2.5 sacks before posting 7.5 sacks in 2023. He was viewed as a potential breakout candidate heading into 2024 before his season ended in a flash. Johnson could start slow as he recovers from the major injury in 2025, but the 26-year-old could still pan out as a potential difference-maker for new head coach Aaron Glenn's defense.

Jermaine Johnson Confirms He Tore His Achilles

New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) confirmed on Monday that he suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in the Week 2 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Jets feared this was the case when Johnson was forced to leave Sunday's contest, and now it is confirmed that they will not have Johnson for the rest of the year. It's an especially tough blow for a Jets defense that continues to be without All-Pro pass-rusher Haason Reddick as he continues his contract holdout into the regular season. The 25-year-old Johnson, a former first-round pick in 2022 out of Florida State, was a first-time Pro Bowler in 2023 while recording 55 total tackles, a career-high 7.5 sacks and an interception in 17 games. It's a notable loss for the Jets defense this year, but it shouldn't knock their defense/special teams unit from being a weekly play in fantasy lineups.

Jermaine Johnson Likely Suffered Torn Achilles

New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles on Sunday. Johnson will have an MRI to confirm the injury. This will be a huge loss for the Jets' defense. The 2022 first-round pick is an important pass rusher for the team. He finished 2023 with 7.5 sacks. He was off to a slow start in 2024 but never had a chance to fully get going this season. The injury may force the Jets into a sense of urgency with defensive end Haason Reddick who is holding out for a new contract. Either way, this will certainly impact the Jets D/ST moving forward.

Jermaine Johnson Done For Week 2 With Achilles Injury

New York Jets pass rusher Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) exited during the second half of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans and will not return. The third-year defender had to be carted off the field. With Haason Reddick holding out for a contract extension and Johnson dealing with a serious Achilles injury, the Jets will look for Will McDonald and Takkarist McKinley to handle more opportunities on the end of the defensive line.
