New England Patriots running back Shane Watts rushed for 52 yards on 15 carries during Thursday's preseason finale against the New York Giants. He was not targeted in the passing game. Watts is a rookie out of Fort Hays State who signed with New England as an undrafted free agent. He is a converted defensive end who totaled 17 touchdowns during his final collegiate season. While he was a solid running back to have on the roster for training camp, he always faced an uphill battle to make the team. The Patriots will enter the 2025 season with a backfield featuring TreVeyon Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, and possibly JaMycal Hasty.
