Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that kicker Spencer Shrader (knee) tore his ACL and MCL in his right knee in the Week 5 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and will miss the rest of the season, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. Shrader was injured when a defender crashed into his knee following a kick on Sunday. It's a tough break for the 26-year-old and the 4-1 Colts, as Shrader had missed just one of his 14 field-goal tries while making all 14 of his extra-point attempts in five games before his season-ending injury. With no current kicker other than Shrader on the active roster or practice squad, the Colts will be working out free-agent kickers this week as they head into a Week 6 meeting with the visiting Arizona Cardinals. Fantasy managers who had been using Shrader at the position will have to hit the waiver wire for a replacement.

Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader (knee) is doubtful to return to his team's Week 5 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a knee injury. Shrader was crashed into by a Raiders defender and left the field with a significant limp. Before getting injured, Shrader knocked in both of his extra-point tries, but did not attempt a field goal. If Shrader is unable to return, Indianapolis may have to turn to punter Rigoberto Sanchez to handle all of its kicking duties.

Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader has been one of the most productive fantasy kickers through the first four weeks of the season. Shrader's 13 field goals lead the NFL, while he is tied for the lead with 14 attempts thus far. He will look to stay hot in a Week 5 home matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders set up as an excellent matchup for Shrader as they are allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing kickers so far. Shrader remains a top fantasy option and can be trusted as a top-six kicker heading into Week 5's slate.
Oct 4, 2025 11:28 AM EST
Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader has been busy to start the year, hitting 11 of his 12 field-goal attempts and all 10 of his extra-point tries. The veteran kicker will look to keep it going in a Week 4 road matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams have been generous to fantasy kickers thus far, allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to the position thus far. The Colts have employed one of the best offenses in the league through three games and Shrader should continue to see plenty of point-scoring chances heading into Week 4. Treat him as a top-12 fantasy kicker this weekend.
Sep 27, 2025 8:59 AM EST
Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader got off to a red-hot start to the season, hitting all nine of his field-goal attempts through the first two weeks. He finally misfired in a Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans, hitting two of his three field goals but nailing all five of his extra-point tries. Shrader's early-season production has been a pleasant surprise for the Colts and fantasy gamers alike as he now has 43 points through three weeks. He will be a solid fantasy option heading into a Week 4 road matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Sep 22, 2025 6:52 PM EST
Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader will head on the road to take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. Shrader has gotten off to a hot start, having hit all nine of his field-goal attempts and adding five extra points through two games. The Colts have been better on offense than expected, ranking fourth in the NFL with 31.0 points per game, which has afforded Shrader extra field-goal attempts thus far. Fantasy gamers can consider the Indy kicker a top-12 option heading into Week 3.
Sep 20, 2025 11:27 AM EST
Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader will host the Denver Broncos in Week 2. Shrader had a big Week 1, hitting all four of his field-goal attempts and adding three extra points in a 33-8 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Colts might have a tougher time moving the ball on offense in Week 2 as the Broncos possess one of the top defenses in the league. Shrader is worth monitoring in fantasy thanks to his strong Week 1, but he should not be in fantasy lineups heading into Week 2 due to the imposing matchup.

Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader will open the year against the Miami Dolphins at home in Week 1. Shrader takes over for Matt Gay, whom the Colts released back in April, with the team indicating that their belief in Shrader was part of the reason they made the move. The Dolphins were generous to opposing kickers last year as they allowed the fifth-most fantasy points per game to the position. That being said, it remains to be seen just how well the Colts are able to move the ball with Daniel Jones under center.

According to James Boyd of The Athletic, Spencer Shrader is the favorite to win the team's starting placekicking duties for 2025. Last season, Shrader kicked for the Colts in Week 1 due to an injury to Matt Gay. The Colts released Gay this offseason and brought Shrader back. He will compete with undrafted free-agent kicker Maddux Trujillo out of Temple, but it is "his job to lose." Shrader went undrafted last offseason out of Notre Dame and kicked in one game for the Colts, one game for the New York Jets, and two games for the Kansas City Chiefs. Overall, he made all five of his field goal attempts and was a perfect nine-for-nine on extra point tries. Gay attempted the seventh-most field goals last season for Indy, so Shrader could find his way on the fantasy football radar in 2025.

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Thursday that they have signed free-agent kicker Spencer Shrader to an undisclosed deal. Shrader will return to Indianapolis after making all three of his extra points in the Week 1 loss to the division-rival Houston Texans. The 25-year-old also appeared in games with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs in his first year in the NFL in 2024, going a combined 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts (zero attempts from 50-plus yards) and 9-for-9 on extra-point tries. Shrader didn't miss a single kick, but it was also a small sample size. He was brought in to compete with veteran Matt Gay this summer after Gay made just 83.8 percent of his 37 field-goal attempts in his second year with the team. Whoever wins the competition should be left to the waiver wire in 12-team fantasy leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs rookie kicker Spencer Shrader (hamstring) will not participate in the team's first practice of the week on Tuesday. On a short week -- the Chiefs play the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders this Friday -- Shrader's availability is now in question. Harrison Butker (knee) is on Injured Reserve, so the 25-year-old was scooped up off the New York Jets' practice squad and has served as KC's kicker the last two games. He's held his own for the Super Bowl champions, converting on all three of his field-goal tries and all six of his extra-point attempts. As insurance, the Chiefs added Matthew Wright to their practice squad on Tuesday. The Raiders have allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing kickers, so whoever is kicking for Kansas City on Black Friday is at least worth a look as a streamer at the position in Week 13. Whether the Chiefs activate Wright to the active roster will be a telling sign for Shrader this week.
Nov 26, 2024 3:14 PM EST
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Spencer Shrader will face the Carolina Panthers in Week 12. Shrader was acquired by the team in the wake of Harrison Butker's injury and started as the placekicker for the team in last week's loss. The 25-year-old kicker out of Notre Dame nailed all three extra-point attempts and did not attempt a field goal in Week 11. The Chiefs are favorites in this week's matchup against the Panthers, which bodes well for Shrader's opportunities to score. If the Chiefs dominate the Panthers in this contest, there should be plenty of extra-point attempts and field goals to kick. Shrader will look to continue his streak of made kicks for his new team this week. The Chiefs kicker is ranked as the 11th-best kicker this week, meaning fantasy managers will likely have better options to turn to. That said, Shrader should be a decent bye-week replacement kicker.
Nov 23, 2024 2:55 AM EST
The Kansas City Chiefs officially signed rookie kicker Spencer Shrader to their active 53-man roster on Friday from the New York Jets' practice squad and officially placed kicker Harrison Butker (knee) on Injured Reserve. Shrader will get the first crack at replacing Butker as KC's primary kicker moving forward. With Butker on IR, he will be required to miss at least the next four games. Shrader, an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame, has kicked in two games in his first year in the NFL -- one with the Jets and one with the Indianapolis Colts -- making both of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra points. The 25-year-old made 68.3 percent of his field goals in college and will not be a recommended streaming option at the position in his first game with the Chiefs in a Week 11 showdown on the road against the Buffalo Bills.
Nov 15, 2024 12:27 PM EST
New York Jets kicker Spencer Shrader made both of his field-goal attempts in a 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10. Shrader was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday after the Jets cut Riley Patterson earlier in the week. They also had veteran Anders Carlson on their roster but opted to give kicking duties to Shrader, who hit three extra points as a member of the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the season. That being said, Shrader will take on those same Colts in Week 11.
Nov 10, 2024 9:47 PM EST
New York Jets kicker Spencer Shrader has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 10 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The merry-go-round at kicker continues for the Jets as they seemingly have gone through a handful of kickers over the last few weeks. The Jets also have Anders Carlson, but it's looking like Shrader is going to get the starting nod this weekend. Fantasy managers shouldn't get too invested in Shrader as this could very well be a one-game stint for him. He could be worth a look for fantasy managers needing a streaming option at kicker this week, but probably won't be a long term solution at the position.
Nov 9, 2024 6:36 PM EST
The Indianapolis Colts elevated rookie kicker Spencer Shrader and cornerback Chris Lammons from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster on Saturday in advance of the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sunday against the division-rival Houston Texans. This is a clear sign that starting kicker Matt Gay (hernia), who is listed as questionable for Week 1, will end up being inactive on Sunday morning after he recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia. Gay is questionable to kick on Sunday, but he missed practice all week and is probably more doubtful than anything. Fantasy managers that were planning to use Gay in Week 1 should have already been looking for other options this weekend. Rolling with Shrader in his first NFL game would be unwise given all the other options available on the waiver wire.
