Jody Fortson Jr. Stands Out In Spring Practices

Tuesday, June 25, 2:05 PM

The Miami Dolphins signed veteran Jonnu Smith this offseason to provide a receiving threat at tight end, but Jody Fortson Jr. stood out during spring practices. Fortson has a wide catch radius and has flashed the ability to pick up yardage after the catch. The former Kansas City Chiefs tight end has a challenging road to a meaningful workload in 2024 with both Smith and Durham Smythe on the roster, as well as the plethora of pass-catchers in Miami's offense, but the early returns on Fortson say he will be able to contribute when called upon. The 28-year-old spent all of last year on the Chiefs' Injured Reserve after having shoulder surgery, but he's healthy now and is a tight end to watch for now as we approach training camp this summer. The fifth-year pro could become an intriguing waiver-wire pickup this year if one of Smith or Smythe miss time due to injury.

Isaiah Hodgins The Odd Man Out?

Friday, May 31, 2:54 PM

When New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton returned to voluntary organized team activities this week, fellow wideout Isaiah Hodgins appeared to be the odd man out. Slayton didn't miss a beat in his return to the field, either, catching a crossing route from quarterback Daniel Jones in a 7-on-7 period and also catching two passes from backup Drew Lock. Hodgins had a quiet practice on Thursday after being the leading first-team receiver last week. Slot receiver Wan'Dale Robinson continues to be moved around the field. After the Giants took LSU wideout Malik Nabers in the first round of this year's NFL draft, Hodgins' stock immediately took a hit. In addition to Robinson, Jalin Hyatt also figures to have a bigger role in the offense in 2024.
