Nick Westbrook-Ikhine News

Steps up Sunday

Westbrook-Ikhine caught all four of his targets for 53 yards and a touchdown but lost a fumble in Sunday's 25-16 win over the Colts.

Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine saw his role expanded after star wideout A.J. Brown exited early with a hamstring injury. The second-year pro stepped up with an 18-yard touchdown -- the first of his career -- in the second quarter, but then Westbrook-Ikhine coughed the ball up following a red-zone-entering grab in the third. Should Brown be sidelined going forward, Westbrook-Ikhine would figure to benefit from more snaps, as was the case with his team-leading production as a receiver Sunday, but he'll need to avoid mistakes like fumbling in order to stay on the field.

Targeted once in Week 17

Westbrook-Ikhine was targeted once but did not record a reception in Week 17 against the Texans. He recorded three receptions for 33 yards for the season.

Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine played only seven offensive snaps as compared to 17 on special teams. Even so, he was one of only five Titans pass-catchers to command a target in the regular-season finale. The undrafted free agent didn't make much of a dent in the stat sheet in his rookie season, though he logged 164 offensive snaps and took on an increased role in the absence of Adam Humphries (concussion). Westbrook-Ikhine will be an exclusive rights free agent this offseason, meaning the Titans can retain him for a league-minimum, one-year contract in 2021. Prior to that, however, he'll focus on the team's wild-card round matchup against the Ravens.

Records 19-yard reception

Westbrook-Ikhine recorded one reception on one target for 19 yards in Week 16 against the Packers.

Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine played 13 offensive snaps, in line with his playing time from Weeks 13 and 14. He was targeted only once, but made it count to push the Titans deep into Green Bay territory during a drive in the fourth quarter. Westbrook-Ikhine now was three receptions on the season and will provide limited -- if any -- production in Week 17 against the Texans.

Healthy scratch Sunday

Westbrook-Ikhine (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Browns, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Analysis: Adam Humphries (concussion) is returning to the lineup after missing the last four games. in turn, Westbrook-Ikhine will watch Sunday's game from the sidelines. He has played in 10 games this season but hasn't played double-digit offensive snaps since Week 6.

Expected to handle backup duties

Westbrook-Ikhine is expected to operate in a reserve role Sunday versus the Texans following news that Adam Humphries (illness) has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine has played in three games this season and logged a whopping 68 percent snap share in Week 4 with both Humphries and Corey Davis (illness) out. Davis isn't expected to return this week, but Humphries, A.J. Brown and Kalif Raymond will handle a majority of the three-wide sets Sunday.

Expected to start Tuesday

Westbrook-Ikhine is expected to start at wide receiver Tuesday against the Bills because Corey Davis and Adam Humphries remain on the reserve/COVID list, Turron Davenport of ESPN reports.

Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine is slated to be the No. 3 wideout behind A.J. Brown (knee), who is expected to play, and Kalif Raymond. Over two games this season, Westbrook-Ikhine has played 18 offensive snaps and been targeted twice, failing to haul in either one.

Earns promotion Wednesday

Tennessee promoted Westerbrook-Ikhine to its 53-man roster Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports

Analysis: The rookie out of Indiana got the call after he was shifted back to the practice roster Tuesday. With the team opening up a roster spot after waiving receiver Cody Hollister, Westbrook-Ikhine earned another shot. He failed to suit up in Monday's game against Denver as a healthy scratch, but he'll hope to make his NFL debut Sunday against Jacksonville.

Not suiting against Denver

Westbrook-Ikhine (coach's decision) is not active for Week 1 against Denver, John Glennon of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine was recently promoted from the practice squad to active roster earlier in the week, likely as insurance for Corey Davis (hamstring). However, with Davis able to go, Westbrook-Ikhine finds himself inactive.

Added to active roster

Westbrook-Ikhine was promoted from the Titans' practice squad to the active roster Monday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Analysis: The rookie UDFA out of Indiana was unable to earn a spot on the season-opening roster, but he'll join the active roster as an extra player for Week 1. Westbrook-Ikhine should provide depth at wide receiver and will revert to the practice squad after Monday's game.
