Jonnu Smith Leads NFL in Designed Targets in Week 1

Friday, September 12, 9:57 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith led the team in designed targets in Week 1, per Fantasy Points Data. Despite an inefficient outing, he salvaged his day by scoring on an end-around from inside the five-yard line. Smith drew four designed looks, ranking ahead of notable receivers such as Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Zay Flowers, and Travis Hunter. The Steelers acquired Smith this offseason, reuniting him with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who helped rejuvenate his career during their time together in Atlanta. In Week 2, Smith draws a matchup with Seattle -- a defense that finished middle of the pack against tight ends in 2024. With Pat Freiermuth still in the mix, Smith's role remains capped, making him difficult to trust outside of deeper leagues. He's more of a touchdown-dependent flier than a reliable fantasy starter heading into Pittsburgh's home opener.

Don't Panic: Ravens TE Mark Andrews Still Heavily Involved

Thursday, September 11, 2:27 PM

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is looking to bounce back in Week 2 after a disappointing opener against the Bills in which he recorded just one catch for five yards. While the box score was discouraging, the underlying usage tells a more positive story. Andrews logged 75% of Baltimore's offensive snaps and ran routes on 72% of Lamar Jackson's drop-backs, showing he remains a featured part of the passing game. Fantasy managers shouldn't overreact to the slow start, especially with a matchup against the Browns on deck. Cleveland allowed five receptions for 40 yards to Bengals tight ends in Week 1, and their aggressive pass rush led by Myles Garrett could force Lamar Jackson into more quick throws. That bodes well for Andrews' involvement.
