Thursday Night Football Week 9
We have officially reached the half-way mark on the 2024 NFL season. This week, we get an AFC matchup between the Texans and Jets. While they’re not mathematically out of contention, we can only imagine that this game is a must-win for the 2-6 Jets.
Last week, the Texans lost Stefon Diggs to a season-ending ACL tear. They’re still without Nico Collins, so the WR room could provide us with some value heading into Thursday night. Dameon Pierce has also been ruled out. For the Jets, Allen Lazard has been ruled out for the second straight week with a chest injury.
When it comes to building a showdown lineup, it’s important to make sure that it correlates. If your captain is a wide receiver, you want his quarterback as one of your FLEX players. Same goes for if you have a quarterback as your captain. In this case, you’re going to want 2-3 pass catchers to go along with the quarterback.
In this article, I will be putting the players in order of how much exposure I’m going to have. Each game will feature 2-3 options at captain, which are high-priority plays, followed by flex options to round it out.
DraftKings DFS Showdown: Texans vs. Jets
Captain
WR Tank Dell ($13,800) Heading into the year it was difficult to see a path for Tank Dell with Collins and Diggs ahead of him in the pecking order. This is a great opportunity for the second-year wide receiver to be the focal point of the Texans offense. Dell showed his elite upside before getting hurt last year. He averaged over 25 DraftKings points per game over his final four games in 2023. Two of these four games were good for 30+ points.
RB Breece Hall ($15,600) If this game goes under, which I think it very well could, Hall will be a key piece. He’s seen his workload increase over the past few weeks with at least 17 touches in each of the past three games. The Texans defense has given up 20+ DraftKings points to an RB in each of the past two weeks as well.
FLEX
RB Joe Mixon ($11,000) When it got close last week, the Texans leaned on Joe Mixon. He correlates with either of the above players in the captain spot. With limited options on offense, Mixon will continue to be heavily involved. He’s rushed for over 100 yards in three straight games and will look to extend that streak in New York.
DST Jets ($3,400) Great value for a defense in a game with a projected total of 42. If you go with Breece Hall in the captain spot, the Jets defense is nice to pair with him.
WR Garrett Wilson ($9,600) Wilson remains the preferred Jets wide receiver and we get him at a slightly lower cost. He’s averaging over 23 DraftKings points over the past four games.
WR John Metchie III ($2,800) After Tank Dell, it will be Hutchinson, Woods, and Metchie getting work at wide receiver. When Diggs left the game, Metchie was able to take advantage of his increased role. While Hutchinson is the one that has consistently played more snaps, he still hasn’t had a game with more than two receptions. At just $2,800, Metchie makes for one of the better values on this slate.
QB CJ Stroud ($10,000) Only in consideration if you go with Tank Dell or another Texans pass-catcher up top. Otherwise, I would fade.
