San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch noted on Thursday that quarterback Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder) looked "really good" at Wednesday's practice. "We'll see how he responds today," Lynch said. "His progression has been really a good one." The Iowa State product was able to log another limited session on Wednesday, but has yet to practice fully since picking up toe and shoulder injuries in Week 1. As of now, it's unclear if the plan is for Purdy to suit up in Week 4 for the team's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. If he can't, it will again be former New England Patriots signal-caller, Mac Jones, manning the helm against the visiting Jags. Either way, it appears the 25-year-old isn't far from a return to in-game action
Sep 25, 2025 12:19 PM EST
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) is expected to return to practice on Wednesday. Purdy has missed the past two games with a turf toe injury, forcing the team to lean on backup Mac Jones. Purdy managed limited work late last week, but the 49ers ultimately held him out to give him extra recovery time. With "Mr. Irrelevant" trending toward a Week 4 return against the Jacksonville Jaguars, his presence would be a significant boost for the entire offense, especially second-year wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. While the Jaguars' defense has looked strong early in 2025, this will be the toughest offense they've faced to date. If active, Purdy should be viewed as a QB2 in Week 4.

The San Francisco 49ers officially ruled out quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe) from playing in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. The Iowa State product was initially feared to be out for upwards of a month, but made a late push to return earlier than expected. In any case, the 49ers will exercise caution and keep Purdy out for at least another week. Mac Jones will earn another start in his absence.
Sep 21, 2025 1:46 PM EST
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones will draw the start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. This will mark two straight starts for Jones while Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder) is sidelined. However, Ian Rapoport believes Purdy is in line to return versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. The 49ers are going to take the cautious approach and hold out Purdy for one more week. That's not a terrible decision given Jones did have success during last week's win. Fantasy managers should be able to ride with Jones as a QB2 for one more game. Once healthy, Purdy should be considered a solid QB1 for fantasy managers.
Sep 21, 2025 9:29 AM EST
Although San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder) is officially listed as questionable to play in Week 3 against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said it's "highly unlikely" that he will start this weekend, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's shaping up as a second straight start for backup Mac Jones. Purdy may not start, but he may be active on game day as an emergency backup in case Jones is injured. Either way, though, fantasy managers should keep Purdy on their benches for a second straight week. Purdy's next chance to return to starting duties will come in Week 4 versus the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars. Jones looked good in last week's win over the New Orleans Saints, throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns, but he could be without receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle, shoulder) this weekend. Treat him as a low-end QB2 in superflex formats.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder), who was limited in Thursday's practice for the second straight day this week, said his turf-toe injury is a day-to-day thing, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. "I'm happy with the progress I've been making with my foot, my toe. Gotta see at game time how I feel," Purdy added. The 25-year-old missed the Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints, but he appears to be in play to return as the starter under center this Sunday in a divisional clash against the 2-0 Arizona Cardinals. It's also possible that Purdy is active as Mac Jones' backup in Week 3 if the 49ers want to play it safe. It could all depend on how much Purdy can do in the final practice of the week on Friday. With so much uncertainty surrounding Purdy's availability this week, fantasy managers are better off going in another direction.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder) is practicing on Thursday, per Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group. Inman also relays that 49ers general manager John Lynch said the team is monitoring to see how Purdy's injured toe and shoulder respond to the practice reps. Purdy missed Week 2 due to his injuries. The expectation remains that Mac Jones will be the team's starting quarterback in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. Still, it's encouraging to see that Purdy is making progress and could be on track for a relatively swift return. Jones played well in his first start for San Francisco last week against the New Orleans Saints, and he profiles as a low-end QB2 in Week 3 against Arizona.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe/shoulder) logged a limited practice on Wednesday and has "a chance" to play in Week 3, according to his head coach, Kyle Shanahan. Purdy was unable to play in Week 2 due to a "turf toe variant" and this shoulder injury. However, seeing him already upgraded to limited status does put him in a good position to suit up this weekend when the 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals. Fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on his status during the week. In Week 1, Purdy enjoyed a strong start to the season, going 26-for-35 with 277 passing yards and two passing scores en route to defeating the Seattle Seahawks. With Purdy sidelined, the 49ers turned to Mac Jones to lead the offense last weekend. If Purdy were to remain sidelined, Jones would carry mid-end QB2 value facing the Cardinals.
Sep 17, 2025 4:17 PM EST
According to Adam Schefter, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. Purdy will be absent in Week 2 and it sounds like he'll miss multiple games due to a turf toe issue. There's a chance that Purdy misses as many as five games from this injury. Mac Jones will be under center in Week 2 and it sounds like he'll be drawing multiple starts. Jones doesn't offer a ton of upside, but has value in Superflex formats. It sounds like the 49ers are going to need to lean on him for at least two games.
Sep 14, 2025 9:24 AM EST
The San Francisco 49ers have officially ruled out quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) for Week 2 action against the New Orleans Saints, according to NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco. Purdy is dealing with turf toe despite playing the entirety of the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks last weekend. Not only will the 25-year-old miss this Sunday's game, but reports this week have suggested that he could be out multiple weeks. It's more bad news for an extremely battered Niners team early in 2025. Tight end George Kittle (hamstring) is also out this weekend and will miss at least four games after being placed on Injured Reserve. Former New England Patriots QB Mac Jones will run San Fran's offense against the Saints. Expect plenty of short and intermediate throws while they lean heavily on running back Christian McCaffrey. At best, Jones is a desperation QB2 in superflex fantasy leagues.

According to Ian Rapport of the NFL Network, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) will miss the next 2-to-5 weeks with turf toe. Purdy appeared on the team's injury report with a toe and left shoulder injury on Wednesday. However, it seems this injury is more serious than expected, and the team's QB1 could miss up to the next two weeks of action. As a result, Mac Jones is slated to serve as the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. In the season opener, Purdy went 26-for-35 with 277 passing yards and two scores en route to defeating the Seattle Seahawks. Last season, Jones saw starting opportunities filling in for the injured Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. Jones averaged 205.5 passing yards in the eight games in which he logged more than 40 offensive snaps in 2024. He projects to be a risky QB2 in all fantasy formats in Week 2, facing the Saints.
Sep 11, 2025 8:35 AM EST
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe) is "a long shot" to play on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters. Purdy is dealing with injuries to his toe and left (non-throwing) shoulder, which could set the stage for Mac Jones to get his first start as a member of the 49ers. Jones, a former first-round pick from Alabama, picked up 49 starts in his first four seasons while playing with the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars. Aside from a promising first season, though, Jones has underwhelmed in the NFL. On paper, Jones and the 49ers will face a weak opponent in the Saints' defense, but the Niners' injury issues on offense go beyond Purdy. Tight end George Kittle (hamstring) and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) won't play, while WRs Jauan Jennings (shoulder) and Jordan Watkins (ankle) are also among the team's banged-up players. Jones clearly won't be operating with a full complement of weapons if he does start.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe) is dealing with a left (non-throwing) shoulder and toe injury that "make him uncertain" to play in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said team will see how Purdy's practice week goes, but if he cannot play, backup Mac Jones would be in line to start this Sunday. In addition to Purdy's injuries, tight end George Kittle suffered a hamstring injury in the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks that is expected to sideline him multiple weeks, while receiver Jauan Jennings also injured his shoulder. Purdy went 26-for-35 passing for 277 yards, two touchdowns and two picks in Week 1 but could now miss a juicy matchup against the Saints. If Jones is forced to start this weekend, he'd be a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex formats with limited weapons in the passing game.
Sep 8, 2025 6:47 PM EST
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy completed 26 of his 35 pass attempts for 277 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in his team's 17-13 Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Purdy's first score went to tight end George Kittle (hamstring) in the first quarter. The second went to Kittle's backup, Jake Tonges, who secured the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game. Purdy made extensive use of running back Christian McCaffrey (calf), targeting him 10 times, resulting in nine completions for 73 yards. Unfortunately, Purdy lost the services of both Kittle and Jauan Jennings (shoulder) during the game. Both pass-catchers will undergo MRIs to determine their availability for what could be a juicy Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
Sep 8, 2025 3:20 AM EST
Brock Purdy opens the 2025 season against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. In two starts against his division rival last season, Purdy was 39-for-56 (70% completion rate) for 414 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. In five career starts against Seattle, Purdy has nine touchdowns to three interceptions and has averaged 241.6 passing yards per game. With running back Christian McCaffrey (calf) drawing a questionable tag for the season opener, there may be increased reliance on Purdy's arm. Fortunately, wide receiver Jauan Jennings (calf) has been cleared for the game and will join George Kittle and Ricky Pearsall as Purdy's top targets downfield. Fantasy football managers can start Purdy as he still has enough support around him to finish as a low-end QB1.
Sep 6, 2025 6:37 AM EST
ESPN's Nick Wagoner writes that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall "dedicated a substantial amound of offseason time to making sure that he and quarterback Brock Purdy are in sync." Pearsall also traveled to Florida to work with Purdy on "timing and nuances of some of the routes in the Niners' playbook." Pearsall missed some time in OTAs with another hamstring injury, but it was evident that Purday and Pearsall "had made tangible improvements in their connection once Pearsall stepped on the field in training camp." "I think the sky's the limit for him," offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak said. With Brandon Aiyuk (knee) on the PUP list and Jauan Jennings (calf) injured and holding out for a contract, Pearsall has the opportunity to be Purdy's top target early in 2025. Pearsall is a nice low-cost, WR3/flex target in fantasy drafts this week.

Quarterback Brock Purdy saw his first action of the 2025 preseason, though he was limited to just the first drive of the 49ers' 22-19 win over the Raiders on Saturday. It was announced prior to the game that Purdy would manage the first one or two drives, depending on their length, so that he could get in-game reps and develop chemistry with his receiving corps. The newly minted 265-million-dollar man showed plenty of chemistry with second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall. Purdy's first three pass attempts went to Pearsall, who secured them all for a total of 42 yards. Purdy completed two other passes on the 11-play drive, finishing 5-for-7 for 66 yards. Four of the five completions went for at least 11 yards. The 49ers' next and final tune-up before the regular season comes on August 23 when they take on their former head coach, Jim Harbaugh, and his Los Angeles Chargers.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is expected to play one to two series in the team's preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, making his debut for the 2025 season. The outing will allow Purdy to get game reps and build chemistry with receivers following the offseason departure of star wideout Deebo Samuel. San Francisco's injury woes continue as well, with wide receiver Jauan Jennings (calf) and running backs Isaac Guerendo (shoulder) and rookie Jordan James (finger) all sidelined. Purdy is coming off a 2024 campaign where he threw for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Aug 16, 2025 3:46 PM EST
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that he expects to play quarterback Brock Purdy and some of the other starters in the team's second preseason contest this Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Purdy did not play in the preseason opener last Saturday against the Denver Broncos, so this will be his preseason debut this year, although he probably won't play more than a couple offensive series. The 25-year-old still has low-end QB1 potential with Shanahan running the offense and running back Christian McCaffrey in the backfield, but it's also concerning that San Fran's receiving corps is so beat up right now -- Brandon Aiyuk (knee) is on the PUP list and Jauan Jenninngs (calf), Jacob Cowing (hamstring) and rookie Jordan Watkins (ankle) are all hurt. Purdy's rushing ability gives him a higher floor for fantasy, even if the Niners' offense doesn't fully bounce back.
Aug 14, 2025 5:52 PM EST
A part of his five-year, $265 million contract extension, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy received a full no-trade clause for the duration of the deal, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Purdy gets financial security and control over his future in a deal that is expected to be finalized and become official soon. It wasn't completely Purdy's fault as to why he fell from being the QB6 to QB13 in overall fantasy points in the 2024 season. San Francisco's offense was behind the eight ball from the beginning of the year when they didn't have star running back until the second half of the season, and then he suffered a new injury that caused him to be shut down. Top wideout Brandon Aiyuk also suffered a season-ending injury. The 25-year-old signal-caller could rebound to QB1 levels with better health of his offensive weapons.
