You're On The Clock: Adams, London, Olave
Every fantasy manager will have a point during the draft when they must make a tough decision. It could be choosing between what position to take or players of the same position, but these decisions are the ones that can make or break your season. One decision that many managers may stress over is second-round wide receivers. Davante Adams, Drake London, and Chris Olave are all expected to be drafted in round 2. According to Average Draft Position, they are receivers 10,11 and 12 in ADP. Here is the case for each one, and ultimately, who I would choose if I were on the clock.
Davante Adams
The Las Vegas Raiders may not be the best offense for fantasy production, but that has not stopped Adams from being productive. Adams spent the last two seasons as a Raider and was an elite WR1. Despite lackluster quarterback play, Adams has surpassed 100 catches and 1100 yards in both years. In 2024, his quarterback is again expected to be an issue. The Raiders will either start Aidan O'Connell or Gardner Minshew. Neither screams success for the Raider offense, but Adams' target share should once again make him an elite fantasy option. Adams was second in the NFL in targets last season (175) and second in red zone targets (29). Adams is one of the most talented receivers in football and has all the opportunities to be successful. He is a sure-fire second-round pick.
Drake London
One player still waiting for his breakout season is Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London. Like Adams, London has had nothing to work with at quarterback over the past two seasons. London has caught passes from Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder over the past two years. It is safe to say those players hindered London's ability to score points. But, the addition of Kirk Cousins could vault London to fantasy stardom. Cousins has always been a solid player known for being a fantasy-friendly QB. We saw Cousins thrive with Justin Jefferson in the past few seasons, and everyone is hoping for similar success with London. According to FantasyData, London was outside the top-100 target accuracy last season. It is hard to produce elite numbers when you are not getting thrown accurate passes. There is a lot of projection going into London's ADP. But working with a much better quarterback could turn London into fantasy gold.
Chris Olave
Another player from the 2022 draft class looking for a tremendous season is Saints wide receiver Chris Olave. He was drafted three picks after London in the 2022 draft, and both players are hoping 2024 will be the year they ascend to the elite. Olave has been a solid fantasy WR2 over the first two years of his career, finishing 25th and 19th in fantasy points per game. However, to return second-round value, he must be better than that in 2024. Olave is entering his second season with Derek Carr, and hopefully, that continuity will present more success. Last season, Olave finished 17th in receiving yards with 1,123. However, he finished sixth in air yards with 1,834. That tells us Olave has plenty of room for improvement in 2024. He could be in line for a 1,500+ yard season if Carr remains healthy and continues to feed Olave.
Who Should You Pick?
All three players are solid options and worthy of their second-round ADP. But I would select London here if I were on the clock. I am chasing an elite talent's upside in a much-improved situation. London has the best quarterback of the three (Cousins) and should be a part of a high-powered offense. While Adams seems to have the highest floor, his age (31) and poor quarterback are hard to ignore. London will be 23 for the entire season and has all the traits to be the next big thing in the NFL. As long as London can improve on the two touchdowns he scored last year, he should be able to return second-round value and can be a cornerstone for all fantasy teams.
