Bucky Hodges News

Waived by Jets

Hodges (personal) was waived off the left squad/exempt list by the Jets on Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Analysis: Hodges was waived/injured and reverted to injured reserve in early August before eventually shifting to the exempt list. The 2017 sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech is still looking to make his NFL debut.

Heads back to IR

Hodges (undisclosed) cleared waivers Sunday and reverted to the Jets' injured reserve, per the NFL communication's official transaction log.

Analysis: Hodges had been waived/injured Saturday. The 2017 sixth-round pick went unclaimed on waivers, and will now spend the rest of the season on IR barring an injury settlement.

Let go Saturday

Hodges was released by the Jets on Saturday.

Analysis: The move was made in order to free up a roster spot for center Ryan Kalil. It's possible Hodges could catch on with another team during the preseason, but he'd need to make a significant impression on the coaching staff as the third-year tight end is not eligible for the practice squad this season.

Lands with Jets

Hodges signed a contract with the Jets on Wednesday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Analysis: Hodges, who's shed his former "Bucky" nickname, spent last season on the Steelers' practice squad. Pittsburgh cut him loose just before the 2019 NFL Draft. The 2017 sixth-round pick will now work to stick with the Jets, who are in need of tight end depth with starter Chris Herndon facing a four-game suspension.

Cut loose ahead of draft

Hodges was waived by the Steelers on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Analysis: Hodges spent the 2018 season on the Steelers' practice squad and re-upped on a reserve/future contract in January, but he's now being let go just hours before the start of the 2019 NFL Draft. The 2017 sixth-rounder will presumably now try and mix in with the incoming class of undrafted free agents as teams try to fill out their 90-man rosters before training camp.

Secures deal with Steelers

Hodges signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers on Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Analysis: Hodges couldn't make the Steelers to begin the season and landed on their practice squad. The 2017 sixth-round pick has 48 catches for 691 yards and seven touchdowns in his final season at Virginia Tech but has yet to play in an NFL game. Hodges may see a spot open up if Xavier Grimble moves on from Pittsburgh after the season, but he won't have many opportunities with Vance McDonald and Jesse James under contract in 2019.

Waived by Steelers

Hodges was waived by the Steelers on Saturday.

Analysis: The 2017 sixth-rounder went unclaimed on waivers and joined the Steelers' practice squad. He'll be a candidate for a promotion to the active roster if Vance McDonald (foot), Jesse James (back), or Xavier Grimble (wrist) suffer any setbacks.
