Reaches practice squad deal

The Texans signed Davis to their practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Analysis: Davis was last let go from Houston's injured reserve list in August with an apparent hamstring injury, but the team's decision to re-sign the 25-year-old suggests he's moved past the issue. He'll now provide added depth for the Texans' receiving corps should any of the team's WRs miss time. Since going undrafted in 2019, Davis has suited up for just four games, recording one catch for 17 yards in that span.

Waived off IR

Davis (hamstring) agreed to an injury settlement and has been waived off the Texans' injured reserve list, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Analysis: Davis reverted to Houston's injured reserve list after clearing waivers at the beginning of August. Once healthy, the 25-year-old can look to land a deal with a new team. The wideout appeared in two games last year, catching one of three targets for 17 yards across 20 offensive snaps.

Lands on IR

Davis (undisclosed) reverted to Houston's injured reserve list Thursday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Analysis: Davis was waived with an injury designation by the Texans on Wednesday, but he will shift to the team's injured reserve after clearing waivers. The 25-year-old running back appeared in two games for Houston last year, but he is now set to miss the entirety of the 2022 campaign, barring any injury settlement with the team.

Waived/injured by Houston

The Texans waived/injured Davis (hamstring) on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Analysis: Davis suffered a pulled hamstring in practice and is now being waived/injured. If the wideout clears waiver, he will revert to injured reserve. Davis played in just two games with the Texans last season before suffered a fractured ankle that ended his season early. Though injuries continue to plague the 25-year-old, he'll now focus his attention on making a full recovery.

Practices Saturday

Davis (ankle) was on the field for Saturday's practice, John Harris of the Texans' official site reports.

Analysis: Davis sustained a fractured left ankle late in 2021 and underwent surgery as a result. With second-round draft pick Jon Metchie's unfortunate diagnosis (acute promyelocytic leukemia), Davis and others down the depth chart moved up. There's still a wealth of bodies in front of Davis, who appears to be competing for the fifth WR spot along with Phillip Dorsett and Jalen Camp.

Signs one-year deal with Houston

Davis (ankle) signed a one-year, $895,000 contract with the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Analysis: Davis was signed by the Texans off the Browns' practice squad at the beginning of October, but he made just two appearances with Houston before suffering a fractured left ankle that cost him the remainder of the campaign. Wilson relays that Davis' rehab from the surgery to repair the ankle is going well, and he should be ready to go for training camp ahead of the 2022 season.

Placed on IR

Davis (lower leg) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Analysis: Davis was ruled out for the remainder of the season Monday and appears to have undergone ankle surgery to repair a fractured lower leg suffered in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. The move should allow the Texans another roster spot to help fill out the bottom of their depth chart at wide receiver going forward.

Ruled out for season

Davis has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a fractured lower left leg, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Analysis: Davis went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Seahawks and will be unavailable for the final four games of the season. The 25-year-old appeared in just two games during the 2021 campaign and hauled in one of three targets for 17 yards.

Won't return Sunday

Davis (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's contest against the Seahawks.

Analysis: The 5-foot-11 wideout caught one pass for 17 yards before suffering the ankle injury in the first quarter of Week 14. Phillip Dorsett and Chris Conley are expected to be the most likely beneficiaries of Davis' absence.

Questionable to return Sunday

Davis (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Seahawks.

Analysis: The 5-foot-11 wideout caught one pass for 17 yards before leaving the Week 14 contest in the first quarter with an ankle injury. If he is unable to return, then Phillip Dorsett and Chris Conley will be the most likely beneficiaries.

Starts in Houston debut

Davis started at slot receiver and did not catch either of his two targets in Sunday's 31-0 loss to Indianaplolis.

Analysis: Davis had not dressed for any games since Houston signed him off the Browns' practice squad in early October, but he was the primary beneficiary of Danny Amendola's knee injury that forced him to injured reserve. He played 20 snaps, seven more than Chris Moore, who had filled in earlier this season when Amendola was unavailable. Amendola is expected to miss at least another three weeks, so Davis should have more opportunities to prove he warrants consideration for next year's roster.

Not on injury report

Davis (illness) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report.

Analysis: Davis missed Week 12 against the Jets due to a non-COVID illness, but he's on track to be available for Sunday's divisional matchup against the Colts. The depth wideout has yet to suit up for any games since signing with the Texans on Oct. 5.

Dec 2, 2021 2:31 AM EST

Not playing Sunday

Davis is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets due to an illness.

Analysis: Davis had been listed as questionable heading into the weekend after he was held out of practice Wednesday through Friday due to the non-COVID-19-related illness. His absence shouldn't have any affect on the Texans' offensive game plan; Davis hasn't dressed in any games for Houston since signing with the team Oct. 5.

Signed by Houston

The Texans signed Davis off the Browns' practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Analysis: Davis led the Browns with 154 receiving yards during the preseason, but he was never able to crack the active roster. Nico Collins (shoulder) is already on IR, and Danny Amendola is dealing with a thigh injury that kept him out of Week 3, so Davis has a chance for an extended stay in Houston.

Joins Cleveland's practice squad

The Browns signed Davis to their practice squad after he cleared waivers Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Davis was suspended for the first two games of the regular season for violating the NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse. The 24-year-old wideout led the Browns with 154 receiving yards during the preseason. He is a possible candidate for elevation while the Browns deal with injuries to Odell Beckham (knee) and Jarvis Landry (knee).

Let go by Cleveland

The Browns waived Davis on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Davis was suspended for the first two games of the regular season for violating the NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse. The 24-year-old wideout led the Browns in receiving yards during the preseason and should garner some interest from around the league. He is eligible to return from suspension on Sept. 20.

Begins two-game suspension

Davis' two-game suspension officially commenced Tuesday, Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com reports.

Analysis: Davis was slapped with a two-game suspension during the offseason for violating the NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse. He will be eligibile to return on Sept. 20. He projects to add depth at wide receiver and contribute on special teams for the Browns this season.

Aug 31, 2021 6:11 PM EST

Target leader Sumday

Davis (suspension) caught five of a team-high 10 targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-10 win over the Falcons in preseason Week 3.

Analysis: Davis was slapped with a two-game suspension that doesn't apply until the regular season, but the 24-year-old wideout managed to raise his profile during the preseason. He caught at least three passes all three preseason games while leading the team with 154 receiving yards. Unfortunately, it's probably not enough to win a spot on the 53-man roster.

Handed two-game suspension

Davis has been suspended two games for violating the NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Analysis: Davis will be eligible to finish out the preseason during Sunday's matchup against the Falcons, but he will be forced to sit out the first two weeks of the regular season. The second-year pro has strung together an impressive training camp to this point, with a team-high 157 receiving yards in the Browns' first two exhibition matchups.

Aug 24, 2021 1:58 PM EST

Yardage leader again

Davis caught three of four targets for a team-high 45 yards in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Giants in Preseason Week 2.

Analysis: With starters Odell Beckham (knee) and Jarvis Landry sitting out the first two weeks of preseason, Davis is getting plenty of run and leads the Browns with 101 receiving yards. He also led the team with 56 yards last week against the Jaguars. Davis is unlikely to win a roster spot, as Cleveland has established players with system knowledge head of him, but he's done enough to be considered a candidate for the practice squad. That would also mean another team would be lurking if the Browns try to sneak him through waivers.
