The Miami Dolphins have signed running back Deneric Prince to their practice squad on Friday. The second-year back was recently cut by the Kansas City Chiefs. Prince had a few nice showings during the preseason, but his mistakes outshined his success. There is certainly potential with Prince, so we'll see how he does in Mike McDaniel's system. The Dolphins have a fairly crowded backfield that features Jaylen Wright, Jeff Wilson Jr., Raheem Mostert, and De'Von Achane. There's a small chance that Prince makes an impact in Miami this season. This looks more like a depth move to see if the Dolphins can unlock something in Prince.

The Kansas City Chiefs are cutting running back Deneric Prince on Tuesday. Despite incumbent veteran Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) missing the majority of training camp due to post-traumatic stress disorder, Prince didn't do enough in camp and the preseason to earn a spot on KC's final 53-man roster. Prince appeared to be making a strong push for a roster spot at first, working ahead of CEH in team drills early in camp, but he struggled with consistency as a rusher in the preseason outside of a 41-yard run in the second exhibition game and also had made a mistake on special teams in the exhibition opener, which cost the Chiefs a safety on a kickoff. Fullback Carson Steele looks set to make the roster as backfield depth with this move, offering the team some value as a runner and in pass protection.

Prince also caught one of his two targets for seven yards on Saturday against Detroit, most notably breaking away for a 41-yard scamper in the second quarter to help set up an eventual scoring drive for the Chiefs. The 24-year-old power back might be making some inroads on KC's No. 2 job in the backfield as he battles with incumbent veteran Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the role, but he still has some work to do if he wants to become the top backup to workhorse starter Isiah Pacheco this fall. Prince has one more chance to leave an impression on the coaching staff in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chicago Bears.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Deneric Prince put up modest production in Saturday night's preseason loss to the hosting Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank stadium, rushing four times for 16 yards and catching both of his two targets for 10 yards in the defeat. Prince tied with fullback Carson Steele and fourth-stringer Keaontay Ingram for a team-high four carries on Saturday evening against Jacksonville. Although he went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Prince is trying to beat out incumbent veteran Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the No. 2 RB job this summer behind workhorse starter Isiah Pacheco. With Jerick McKinnon out of the picture in KC, the 24-year-old power back has a clearer pathway to a change-of-pace role for the Chiefs in 2024. Even so, Prince will likely need to yield more impressive results in next Saturday's preseason game against the visiting Detroit Lions to make a serious case for more backfield touches.

Prince went undrafted last year and spent most of his rookie season in the NFL on the practice squad. He was active for just two games and didn't play any offensive snaps. We aren't making any predictions on the order of KC's depth chart after a few practices, but Prince certainly has a shot at a bigger role in 2024 in the Chiefs offense, especially if Clyde Edwards-Helaire continues to disappoint. The defending Super Bowl champions re-signed CEH in the offseason and brought in rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, but other than that, there weren't any notable additions to their backfield. For now, Prince is merely a name to watch in KC's backfield.
