Texans Place Jalen Pitre On Injured Reserve

The Houston Texans officially placed defensive back Jalen Pitre (pectoral) on season-ending Injured Reserve on Friday. Pitre is done for the year, even if the Texans advance deep into the postseason, and will have surgery to fix his ruptured pectoral muscle. The 25-year-old safety will end his third season in the NFL with 65 tackles (44 solo), six tackles for loss, one interception, eight pass breakups and a forced fumble in his 12 starts. In his absence the rest of the way, defensive backs Eric Murray, M.J. Stewart and Myles Bryant should all see more snaps on defense for the Texans. Losing Pitre at this critical juncture is definitely a downgrade for Houston's secondary as they get set for a Week 15 tilt against the visiting Miami Dolphins this Sunday.

Jalen Pitre To Miss The Rest Of The Season

According to Jonathan M Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, Houston Texans defensive back Jalen Pitre (pectoral) will have season-ending surgery on his injured pectoral muscle. The 25-year-old picked up the injury in Week 12's 32-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans, missing the following contest. Ouch. It's a massive blow to Houston's defense. Pitre racked up the team's third-most tackles and passes defended in 2024 -- his third season with the team. For now, defensive backs Jimmie Ward and Eric Murray project to fill in for the Baylor alum. However, Pitre also played nickel back for the Texans, so M.J. Stewart should also pick up some snaps.

Jalen Pitre Done For Week 12

Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre (shoulder) has been downgraded to out. He will not return Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. The 25-year-old registered one tackle prior to exiting, so he now has 65 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception in 2024. Jimmie Ward and M.J. Stewart will earn more opportunities for the duration of Pitre's absence.

Jalen Pitre A Possible Spot Start In Week 12

Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre has had a disappointing 2023, but he could be in for a better game in Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Texans vs. Jaguars game has the highest projected point total of the weekend, and the Jaguars, a slight favorite, could throw the ball frequently. Fantasy safeties against the Jaguars score more points than average. After leading all defensive backs in tackles his rookie season, Pitre is having a down year, with just 31 tackles. He has missed 20.4% of the tackles he has attempted. Last season, Pitre also missed a lot of tackles and was not graded well for his play, but he racked up fantasy points in part because the Texans' defense was so bad that they were always on the field and had to rely on their safeties for tackles. This year, the Texans' defensive improvement has hurt Pitre's production. However, he is a viable start in Week 12.

Jalen Pitre Expected To Practice This Week

Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre (chest) has missed the past two games recovering from a bruised lung suffered in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. But the 24-year-old safety is expected back at practice this week, and if all goes well, he will be in line to play in Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. When healthy, Pitre should immediately jump back into fantasy starting lineups. He's a strong IDP play following his 147 tackle season in 2022.

Jalen Pitre Released From The Hospital

Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre (lung) was released from the hospital on Monday and is in good spirits, according to a source. The young safety was taken to a local hospital on Sunday after suffering a bruised lung in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens when quarterback Lamar Jackson's knee hit his chest. The 24-year-old second-year defensive back should ultimately be OK, but it remains to be seen if he'll have to miss any time after the scary injury in the season opener. We'll have a better idea of whether Pitre will be able to play in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts when the Texans release their first injury report this week on Wednesday. It wouldn't be a surprise if Pitre is unable to play this weekend.
