Cut from practice squad

Holton was released from the Giants' practice squad Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Analysis: The 29-year-old reverted to New York's practice squad after playing 13 snaps on special teams during Week 3 against San Francisco. Holton appeared in 16 games for the Steelers last year and caught three of 15 targets for 21 yards.

Dropped down to practice squad

Holton was reverted back to the Giants' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.

Analysis: Holton played 13 special teams snaps in Sunday's blowout loss to San Francisco and didn't record any statistics.

Elevates from practice squad

The Giants promoted Holton to the active roster Saturday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.

Analysis: With Sterling Shepard (toe) on injured reserve, Holton will be brought up from the practice squad to add depth. He played in 16 games with the Steelers last year and caught three of 15 targets for 21 yards. He'll likely operate in a reserve role with the Giants but could contribute on special teams.

Quick exit in New York

Holton was released by the Giants on Saturday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.

Analysis: Holton signed with the team Wednesday and didn't prove himself enough in his short time with the team to secure a roster spot. The 29-year-old was active for all 16 games with the Steelers last season but caught just three passes for 21 yards on 15 targets.

Latches on with New York

Holton agreed to a contract with the Giants on Wednesday.

Analysis: Holton was let go by the Steelers this offseason, but will get another opportunity to make a 53-man roster. The 28-year-old produced just three catches for 21 yards and returned three kickoffs through 16 games in 2019, so he'll be looking for a depth role.

Cut by Pittsburgh

The Steelers cut Holton on Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Analysis: Holton produced just three catches for 21 yards, and he returned three kickoffs for 55 yards through 16 games in 2019. The 28-year-old likely offers depth receiver help and special-teams upside elsewhere.

Not targeted in loss

Holton was not targeted in Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Ravens.

Analysis: Holton played in all 16 games in 2019 primarily on special teams. He was only on the field for six offensive snaps in the season finale and finishes with three receptions (on 15 targets) for 21 yards. He has one year remaining on his contract heading into 2020.

Awful showing in loss

Holton lost one yard on two catches in Pittsburgh's 17-10 loss to Buffalo on Sunday night.

Analysis: The good news is that Holton caught both his targets after catching just one of 13 targets all season. Unfortunately, the receptions accounted for a one-yard loss. For fantasy owners with something to play for in Week 16 anyone else is a better receiver option.

First reception this season

Holton catches one pass for 18 yards in Pittsburgh's 21 - 7 loss to Cleveland Thursday night.

Analysis: The catch was the first this season for Holton who saw his role increase with game-ending injuries to JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Diontae Washington (concussion). Holton was targeted seven times after seeing just six targets in six games this season. Even if Smith-Schuster and Washington are unable to play in Week 12 against the Bengals Holton is not a viable fantasy option.

No impact in win

Holton failed to bring in his only target during Sunday's 24-17 win over the Chargers.

Analysis: Holton hasn't made a notable impact in the passing game through six contests this season. He does most of his damage on special teams. The 28-year-old possesses minimal fantasy value, even in the deepest of leagues.

Gains first yards from scrimmage

Holton ran once for nine yards in Sunday's 24-20 loss to San Francisco.

Analysis: The carry came late in the first half and was his only touch of the game outside of special teams. An impressive preseason earned him a roster spot, but he had only been targeted three times without a catch in the two previous games and has no fantasy value.

Ascends to active roster

Holton was promoted to the active roster Saturday.

Analysis: Holton was on the team's practice squad, and he'll serve as added depth for Sunday's game versus the Patriots. The 28-year-old has suited up for 32 games in his NFL career, but he rarely plays offensive snaps. Expect Holton to stick to special teams for now.

Joins Pittsburgh practice squad

Holton was signed to the Steelers practice squad on Monday.

Analysis: Holton spent training camp and the preseason with the Steelers, catching seven passes for 167 yards and a touchdown in exhibition play. He will now stick around in the organization and potentially be called up for depth purposes.

Impresses in defeat

Holton caught all three of his targets for 86 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's 25-19 preseason loss to the Panthers.

Analysis: Holton not only went for a team-long reception of 44 yards, but he also caught a 31-yard touchdown nine seconds before halftime. For someone who Pittsburgh was perhaps considering retaining most for his special teams ability, Holton's offensive outburst Thursday can only help his case of making the team's regular season roster, but it remains to be seen whether that will actually happen or not.

Used on special teams Saturday

Holton (hamstring) failed to haul in his lone target and returned two kickoffs in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs.

Analysis: Holton had been dealing with a hamstring injury for a couple weeks, but it looks like he is past it now. While Holton appears to be buried on the team's wide receiver depth chart, it looks like he could have a chance to make the final roster on special teams.

Dealing with hamstring injury

Holton isn't practicing Monday due to a left hamstring injury, Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot reports.

Analysis: Holton suffered the injury Saturday and is now sitting out his second consecutive practice. The 27-year-old played in only one game for the Raiders last season but had nine receptions for 218 yards and three touchdowns in 2017.

Signing with Steelers

Holton signed a contract with the Steelers on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Holton found a new team just five days after being cut by the Eagles. Before Philly, the Cincinnati product couldn't stay in Oakland consistently over the last three seasons, but appeared in 31 games between 2016 and 2017, catching 11 passes for 252 yards.

Let go by Eagles

Holton was released by the Eagles on Wednesday, Geoff Mosher of 97.5 The Fanatic Philadelphia reports.

Analysis: Holton latched on with Philly this past winter on a reserve/future contract but is now being let go, presumably in the name of roster space as the Eagles prepare to sign undrafted free agents ahead of this week's rookie minicamp. Holton appeared in 31 games for the Raiders from 2016 through 2017 and caught 11 total passes for 252 yards (22.9 YPR) on 21 targets (12.0 YPT).

Signs futures deal with Eagles

Holton signed a futures contract with Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Analysis: Holton appeared in one game for the Raiders this season, playing 10 snaps and not recording a catch. He spent much of the season on Oakland's practice squad and will look to carve out a role as a depth receiver and special teams player on the Eagles' active roster in 2019.

Back with Oakland's practice squad

Holton re-signed with the Raiders' practice squad Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Analysis: Holton was waived Monday to make room for tight end Darren Waller, but now finds his way back to the practice squad. The Cincinnati product was activated ahead of Sunday's loss to the Ravens -- a game in which he logged 10 offensive snaps. In a corresponding move, the Raiders also signed edge defender James Cowser to the practice squad.
