Marqise Lee: Opting out of 2020 season

Lee will opt out of the 2020 season, Boston Globe writer Jim McBride reports.

Analysis: Signed to a one-year, $910,000 deal, Lee didn't have much financial incentive in the face of the escalated risk brought on by the COVID pandemic. He was in position to bet on himself for 2021 free agency while offering the Patriots reps both in the slot and outside, but the former USC star will wait until the 2021 season to make his attempted comeback from multiple years of poor injury luck. His absence from the roster improves the odds of fringe receiver prospects like Will Hastings and Jeff Thomas earning a final roster spot.

Marqise Lee: Joining Patriots

Lee is signing a one-year contract with New England, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Analysis: It's a pretty good landing spot for Lee, who was released by the Jaguars on Monday after playing only six games the past two seasons. The 2014 second-round pick was a late bloomer in Jacksonville, eventually emerging as a useful possession receiver in 2016 and 2017. He cashed in with a four-year, $34 million contract but then suffered an ACL tear during the 2018 preseason and entered 2019 at No. 4 on the Jags' WR depth chart. A shoulder injury forced Lee to injured reserve in late October, setting the stage for his offseason release. He'll now head to New England, where the wideout position appears shaky beyond top dog Julian Edelman.

Marqise Lee: Sent packing by Jags

The Jaguars released Lee (shoulder) on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Lee has been productive at times in his NFL career, combining for 119 catches, 1,553 yards and six touchdowns on 201 targets in 30 regular-season games between 2016 and 2017. Otherwise, he's made just 29 other appearances since he was selected by Jacksonville in the second round of the 2014 draft, missing the entire 2018 campaign due to a torn ACL and being limited to six outings last year due to a variety of concerns. Rapoport noted Lee is "fully healthy and completely cleared medically," but the 28-year-old wide receiver still will need to pass a physical before officially finding a new employer.

Marqise Lee: Likely to be cut

Lee (shoulder) likely will be released this offseason for salary cap reasons, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official website reports.

Analysis: Lee never had much chance to make good on his four-year, $34 contract, suffering an ACL tear in August 2018 and then dealing with knee, foot and shoulder injuries in 2019. The 28-year-old wide receiver won't be back in Jacksonville for 2020 unless he accepts a sizable pay cut.

Marqise Lee: Disastrous season finishes on IR

Lee (shoulder) ended the season on injured reserve and caught three passes for 18 yards in six games this season.

Analysis: The 28-year-old was limited in training camp as he continued his recovery from a torn ACL last year, and he was never able to get on track before landing on IR with the shoulder injury in late October. Lee inked a four-year, $34 million deal with the Jaguars in March 2018, but he's barely seen the field since signing the contract. Lee seems a likely candidate to be released with the Jaguars hurting for cap space, since he would carry a dead cap hit of only $3.5 million in 2020 and $1.75 million in 2021.

Marqise Lee: Unavailable Week 7

Lee (ankle) was ruled out for Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

Analysis: Lee sustained a "mild to moderate" ankle sprain during last Sunday's loss to the Saints and will miss at least one game due to the injury. The 27-year-old has only two catches for 10 yards in five games while working as the Jaguars. No. 4 wide receiver. D.J. Chark, Chris Conley and Dede Westbrook (shoulder) -- who is listed as questionable -- should remain the team's top wideouts against the Bengals. Keelan Cole is next up on the depth chart should Westbrook be unable to play.

Marqise Lee: Slated to miss practice again

Lee (ankle) isn't expected to practice Thursday, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: With back-to-back absences at practice to open Week 7, Lee looks unlikely to be available for Sunday's game in Cincinnati. Dede Westbrook (shoulder) is also sitting out Thursday's practice and may be at risk of sitting this weekend, potentially leaving the Jaguars with only D.J. Chark, Chris Conley, Keelan Cole and C.J. Board as their lone healthy receivers.

Marqise Lee: Unable to practice Wednesday

Lee (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Analysis: Lee is considered week-to-week due to a sprained ankle, and he appears to be trending towards missing Sunday's tilt against the Bengals. Of course, considering that Lee has logged just two catches for 10 yards through five games this season, his absence doesn't carry much of a fantasy impact.

Marqise Lee: Week-to-week

Lee is viewed as week-to-week with a sprained ankle, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Though the wideout's injury was described "minor to moderate," it seems likely that he'll miss some time. With just two catches for 10 yards in five games to date, however, Lee is off the fantasy radar. For the time being, Dede Westbrook, DJ Chark and Chris Conley head the Jaguars' wideout corps.

Marqise Lee: Sports walking boot

Lee (right foot) was wearing a walking boot after Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Saints, Hays Carlyon of 1010 AM WJXL reports,

Analysis: On the plus side, the report notes that the wideout "was walking around fine (with the boot), not needing crutches and seemed upbeat." It remains to be seen if Lee will be able to play next weekend, but with just two catches for 10 yards to date, he's off the fantasy radar.

October 13, 2019 1:49 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Exits Sunday's game

Lee was forced out of Sunday's game against the Saints with a right foot injury, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Prior to his exit from the contest, Lee did not have a catch and carried once for one yard, while Dede Westbrook and DJ Chark served as the Jaguars' primary wide receiver targets.

October 13, 2019 12:14 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Sees two targets

Lee caught one of two targets for five yards in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.

Analysis: The 27-year-old was once again an afterthought in the Jaguars' offense as he played only 19 offensive snaps. Lee has only two catches for 10 yards through four games after missing last season from a torn ACL.

October 7, 2019 7:43 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Sees one target

Lee caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's win over the Broncos.

Analysis: The 27-year-old played only 25 offensive snaps Sunday and appears firmly entrenched as the team's No. 4 wide receiver behind Dede Westbrook, D.J. Chark and Chris Conley. The catch was Lee's first of the season as he saw his highest snap count through three games.

October 1, 2019 6:09 AM EST

Marqise Lee: No Week 3 injury tag

Lee (knee) does not carry an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Titans.

Analysis: Lee, who logged 12 snaps on offense in Week 1, was inactive this past Sunday against the Texans. He heads into Thursday's game free from an injury tag, but until Lee gets a full and productive game in, the 2014 second-rounder is off the fantasy radar.

September 18, 2019 1:31 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Working at full speed

Lee (knee) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice.

Analysis: Lee sat out of Week 2's game versus the Texans with this knee issue, but it appears he's made a speedy recovery. He'll be ready to go for Thursday's game versus the Titans, barring a setback, and he could have an increased role if Chris Conley (hip) is ruled out. However, when the receiving corps was healthy in Week 1, Lee only played 12 offensive snaps and didn't receive a target.

September 17, 2019 3:02 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Listed as limited Monday

Lee (knee) is listed as limited on Monday's estimated injury report.

Analysis: Lee continues to deal with the residue of the torn ACL in his right knee suffered in August 2018. After he managed to play 12 offensive snaps in the regular-season opener, he was held out entirely Week 2. Perhaps the Jaguars were exercising caution with two games in the span of five days, but his status bears watching in advance of Thursday's contest against the Titans.

September 16, 2019 4:25 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Not playing Sunday

Lee (knee) was downgraded to out for Sunday's contest against the Texans, Jaguars' director of public relations Tad Dickman reports.

Analysis: It's a disappointing downgrade for Lee, who played just 12 snaps in the season opener and was promptly listed with a knee injury on Thursday's injury report. The trio of Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley and D.J. Chark should continue their stranglehold on the target share, but Keelan Cole could ultimately see more time in four wide-receiver sets with Lee's absence.

September 14, 2019 10:52 AM EST

Marqise Lee: Listed as questionable this week

Lee (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans, J.P. Shadrick of the Jaguars' official site reports.

Analysis: Lee was added to the team's injury report Thursday after he was limited by a knee issue. His non-participation Friday clouds his week 2 status. As things stand going into the weekend, Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley and DJ Chark are in line to head the team's wideout corps Sunday.

September 13, 2019 1:33 PM EST

Marqise Lee: Added to injury report

Lee was a limited participant in practice Thursday due to a knee injury, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: It doesn't look like it's anything too serious for Lee, as the Jaguars are calling it a maintenance day for wideout's surgically repaired left knee. Assuming nothing worsens for Lee this week, he should be good to go for Sunday's trip to Houston.

September 12, 2019 8:02 AM EST

Marqise Lee: Limited to 12 snaps

Lee finished with no targets on 12 snaps in Sunday's 40-26 loss to the Chiefs.

Analysis: Lee had a minimal role in his first game back from last year's ACL injury, tying Keelan Cole for the fourth-most snaps among Jacksonville wide receivers. Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew filled in capably for an injured Nick Foles (broken clavicle), allowing Dede Westbrook, DJ Chark and Chris Conley to combine for 273 yards and three touchdowns (one apiece). There's no guarantee Lee gets more playing time Week 2 in Houston.
