Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell completed 19-of-29 passes for 170 yards and four interceptions along with one carry for 18 yards in Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills. After a solid performance in Week 2, things couldn't have gone much worse for the former Tar Heel in Week 3. In addition to his woeful passing performance, Howell took nine sacks from the Bills' defense, upping his season total to 19 sacks in just three games. Although the Commanders are 2-1 heading into Week 4, it's going to be hard to consider them and Howell legitimate threats after this miserable outing. The second-year quarterback will hope to bounce back in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is facing possibly his toughest challenge so far against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have been strong against the pass while allowing the sixth-lowest passing yards per game this season. Coming off of a strong performance against the Denver Broncos, the second-year quarterback might have his hands full. Additionally, the weather in Washington D.C. has a chance of being dreadful with plenty of wind and rain. The tough matchup coupled with the bad weather forecast has Howell looking like a desperation streamer this week. Monitor the Washington D.C. forecast, but it'd be best to find another option at quarterback.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell completed 27-of-39 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns along with two carries for 13 yards in Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos. After a rough Week 1 with some definite growing pains, the second-year quarterback rebounded in a big way against Denver. While he struggled early on, he managed to be the conductor that led the furious Washington comeback to bring the team to 2-0 on the season. Hopefully, Howell can carry this performance over into the Commanders' tough Week 3 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

After his first start of the 2023 season, Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell has the task of taking on the Denver Broncos in Week 2. The second-year pro struggled in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, so there's a hope that he can rebound in some fashion against Denver. In the Broncos' Week 1 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, their defense allowed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to throw only six incompletions on 26 attempts during his solid performance. If the Commanders' offensive line can hold up better than they did a week ago, Howell may be in for a bounce back this week. Consider him a low-end streaming option against the Broncos.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell completed 19-of-31 passes for 202 yards, a touchdown, and an interception along with two carries for 11 yards, a touchdown, and a lost fumble in Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals. It was a tough day for the second-year quarterback, as what looked like an easy matchup for the offense quickly turned into an unproductive struggle. Howell salvaged his fantasy output with a rushing touchdown, but it was a weak performance overall. Hopefully, the offense has a more productive day in Week 2 because most NFL teams aren't nearly as weak of an opponent as Arizona.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell should have an easy matchup for his second career regular season start. Washington is taking on the woeful Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, a team that has done everything but scream from the rooftops to show that they're tanking this season. With little resistance on the defensive side, the second-year quarterback could be in line for a solid day. The only worry here is if the offense gets up too quickly and the game shifts into a positive game script where the Commanders lean on the run. However, with this matchup, Howell has the potential to be an excellent streaming option for Washington's first game of the post-Dan Snyder era.

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said that quarterback Sam Howell has a chance to be a "really good" quarterback for the team. Since Kirk Cousins last played for the team in 2017, the franchise has started 12 different QBs due to injuries and ineptitude. In Rivera's three seasons in D.C., the team has started eight QBs. "We feel pretty comfortable, pretty good about the guy this year. We feel very strongly -- I know I do -- going into this season that we've got a guy," Rivera said of Howell. The 22-year-old looked good in the preseason finale against Baltimore, going 19-for-25 for 188 yards and two touchdowns on Monday. Howell will have some pretty good playmakers to work with in an offense now run by Eric Bieniemy, giving him some sleeper upside as a QB2 in superflex leagues in 2023.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell completed 19-of-25 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns along with three carries for 17 yards in Monday's win over the Baltimore Ravens. Just three days after being named the Commanders' starting quarterback, Howell showed out for a second straight week. Before exiting, the second-year quarterback strung together multiple scoring drives to put Washington on top at halftime. It's only the preseason, but the former Tar Heel's early performances in this Eric Bieniemy offense are providing some excitement for his 2023 season.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell has officially been named as the team's Week 1 starter, according to head coach Ron Rivera. This news comes a day after Rivera was hesitant to name anyone the starter. It seemed fairly obvious that Howell was going to be the starter all along. He has been taking 100 percent of the first-team reps for the last two weeks in training camp. The fifth-round pick will get full rein of Eric Bieniemy's offense. The 22-year-old could be a favorable streaming option versus the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is expected to begin the 2023 NFL season as the team's starter, but head coach Ron Rivera is being hesitant to make it official. When Rivera was asked if he was ready to name a starting QB, Rivera dodged the question. "I gotta sit down with both (offensive coordinator) Eric (Bieniemy) and (QB coach) Tavita (Pritchard) and really evaluate it and make sure he's doing the things that we need him to do," Rivera said. "I mean, Jacoby (Brissett) did some really good things too, so we feel really comfortable about the quarterback room right now." Again, Howell should be named the starter soon, but it could be a little bit concerning that Rivera isn't fully confident in officially naming him QB1 with just a few weeks to go before the regular season. Both Howell and Brissett are worth rostering in deep superflex and two-QB formats.
