Out with hip issue

Lewis (hip) reverted to the Dolphins' practice squad Tuesday and was subsequently placed on the practice squad injured list, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Analysis: Lewis was a gameday elevation for Monday's win over the Saints and had one reception for seven yards, one kick return for 23 yards and two punt returns for minus-one yard before suffering the injury. The 29-year-old must spend at least three weeks on the practice squad injured list.

Ruled out

Lewis (hip) will not return to Monday's game against the Saints.

Analysis: Lewis was injured in the second quarter but ruled out shortly thereafter. He was active for only the second time this season and has been limited to a role primarily on special teams.

Questionable to return

Lewis is considered questionable to return to Monday's matchup with the Saints due to a hip injury.

Analysis: Lewis is primarily a special teams contributor, so his absence is not expected to impact the Dolphins' offense. The severity of his injury will not be known until the team provides more clarity on the issue.

Elevated to active roster

Lewis was moved up from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement ahead of Monday's game against New Orleans.

Analysis: Miami's receiving corps is largely healthy, so Lewis isn't likely to see much action on offense Monday. He has appeared in only one contest this season, logging 11 special-teams snaps against the Jets in Week 15.

Returns to practice squad

Lewis reverted to Miami's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Activated ahead of Week 15

Lewis was activated from the practice squad Saturday, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis: Lewis just joined the Dolphins' practice squad earlier in the week, and he'll move up to the active roster because Jaylen Waddle is on the COVID-19 list. The 29-year-old could get a chance to return kicks with Waddle out.

Signed to Miami's practice squad

Lewis was signed to the Dolphins' practice squad Monday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of reports.

Analysis: Lewis was waived with an injury designation in late August, but he appears to have moved past the issue and has rejoined the Dolphins after presumably impressing during his tryout ahead of Week 14. In a corresponding move, Miami released Travis Fulgham from its practice squad.

Gets tryout with Dolphins

Lewis (undisclosed) had a tryout with Miami on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Analysis: Lewis was waived with an injury designation in late August, but it appears as though he's moved past his unspecified issue. He appeared in five games with the Saints last year and hauled in one of three targets for five yards while rushing twice for 14 yards.

Waived by Saints

The Saints waived Lewis (undisclosed) with an injury designation Sunday, John Sigler of USA Today reports.

Analysis: Lewis initially reverted to the Saints' injured reserve after he went unclaimed on waivers, but he'll now be eligible to play in 2021 if he lands with another team. The nature and severity of the receiver's injury still aren't known. Across four seasons in New Orleans, the 28-year-old hauled in 21 receptions for 257 yards and two touchdowns.

Placed on IR

Lewis landed on the Saints' injured reserve Friday with an undisclosed injury, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Analysis: It is unclear at this time what injury Lewis is dealing with. He has been with the Saints sing being drafted by the team in 2016. He is now set to spend the year on IR unless he and New Orleans come to terms on an injury settlement down the line.

Gets another chance with Saints

New Orleans signed Lewis to a contract Friday, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Waived from practice squad

Lewis was waived from the Saints' practice squad Saturday.

Analysis: Lewis bounced back and forth between the practice squad this season, but after failing to make enough of an impact, the Northern Illinois product has been let go from New Orleans. The receiver caught one of his three targets for five yards during the 2020 campaign.

Shifts to practice roster

Lewis reverted to the Saints' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Analysis: Lewis only played seven snaps on offense during this stint with the Saints; he primarily works as a returner when he's on the active roster. The Northern Illinois product recorded 20 yards on two punt returns in Sunday's win over the Panthers. Lewis will be an option for the Saints for the duration of their playoff run.

Jan 5, 2021 12:23 PM EST

Heads to active roster

Lewis was promoted to the Saints' active roster Saturday.

Analysis: Lewis will be available for Sunday's game against the Panthers and he could assume kick return duties with Ty Montgomery experiencing an expanded role as the team's fill-in starting running back.

Returns to practice squad

The Saints signed Lewis to the practice squad Wednesday, Katherine Terrell of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: Lewis has cleared waivers after being cut by the Saints last Thursday. The 28-year-old wide receiver has been shuffled up and down from the practice squad this season, ultimately playing in four games and contributing mostly as a return man.

Dec 30, 2020 7:06 PM EST

Moving on from New Orleans

Lewis was waived by the Saints on Thursday, Larry Holder of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: The Northern Illinois product has been called up to the active roster a handful of times over the latter of the season, making four appearances since Week 8 while compiling 21 scrimmage yards on two offensive touches. WIth Lewis offering flexibility as a return specialist as well, there remains the possibility New Orleans promptly re-signs the 28-year-old once an injury or roster development merits acquiring his services.

Held without a reception

Lewis failed to bring in his only target in the Saints' 32-29 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

Analysis: He appeared in an NFL game for the third week in a row, though Lewis failed to make any meaningful impact. In that span, he's drawn just two targets without bringing in a reception. On the year, Lewis has just one reception for five yards to his credit.

Dec 21, 2020 1:09 PM EST

Gains promotion to active roster

Lewis has been added to the Saints' active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Analysis: As was Juwan Johnson, with the duo likely to stick around beyond Week 15, given that both Michael Thomas (ankle) and Deonte Harris (neck) were placed on IR on Saturday. In that context, Emmanuel Sanders and Tre'Quan Smith are slated to serve as the team's top wideouts down the stretch.

Dec 19, 2020 1:45 PM EST

Sent down after busy returns day

Lewis reverted to the Saints' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Analysis: Lewis received an opportunity in the return game as Deonte Harris sat out his third consecutive contest due to a stinger. The Northern Illinois standout contributed 55 yards over his two kick-return attempts, adding a pair of punt returns for six yards. He's been afforded a peripheral offensive role when active, posting 21 scrimmage yards on two touches over his three 2020 appearances.

Dec 14, 2020 5:25 PM EST

Brought up to active roster

The Saints elevated Lewis to the active roster Saturday.
