The Atlanta Falcons are placing kicker Younghoe Koo (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday, according to a source. In a corresponding move, the Falcons have signed kicker Riley Patterson off the Cleveland Browns practice squad and onto their 53-man active roster. Koo is now out for the rest of the season and would be unavailable to kick in the wild-card round of the playoffs if the Falcons get into the postseason. The 30-year-old suffered an undisclosed injury in the Monday night win over the Las Vegas Raiders and will now go on the shelf. Normally a very reliable kicker, Koo struggled with accuracy in 2024, making 25 of his 34 field-goal attempts, although he made all 26 of his extra points. Patterson will now fill in heading into a Week 16 contest against the New York Giants. With rookie QB Michael Penix Jr. making his first career start, fantasy managers will want to steer clear of Patterson.

The Atlanta offense really got rolling last week and gets another favorable matchup in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have been terrible against both the pass and run, so the Falcons should have no problem moving the ball down the field which should provide Koo with plenty of opportunity. The drawback perhaps is that Carolina has been too forgiving, which could lead to touchdowns and only extra points for the 30-year-old kicker, but with one of the higher projected totals on the board (46.5) and beautiful weather conditions projected in Charlotte, this game sets up nicely for the seven-year veteran.

Koo is among the most intriguing kicking options this season, with the newly revamped offense for the Falcons and the fact that he plays half of his game indoors. While Koo practiced in full all week long, it appears that he started experiencing symptoms sometime this weekend. On a positive note, the Falcons opted against signing a kicker to their active roster, so it appears they're confident that Koo will play. If active, he ranks as a top-10 kicking option versus the Panthers' suspect defense.
