Jimmy Garoppolo QB (SF)
Jimmy Garoppolo Ready for all activities: Garoppolo (knee) anticipates having no restrictions for the start of training camp July 27, Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Our take: The 27-year-old quarterback mostly was limited to 7-on-7 drills throughout the offseason program, eventually taking one snap in 11-on-11s at the end of June minicamp. The 49ers presumably will monitor his workload throughout training camp and preseason, but it sounds like Garoppolo will be cleared for full-team drills. He'll be surrounded by a deep group of pass catchers, with George Kittle locked in at tight end while a slew of players compete for snaps at running back and wide receiver.
It's possible to track the change in Jimmy Garoppolo's fantasy value over time by looking at where he's drafted. According to the latest PPR average draft position data, he's being drafted in at the 12.03 spot.
Keep an eye out on his value going forward.
Cam Newton QB (CAR)
Cam Newton On track for training camp: Newton (shoulder) is slated to be a full participant when the Panthers open training camp July 24, Brendan Marks of The Charlotte Observer reports.
What it means: Newton struggled with shoulder pain throughout much of last season, eventually sitting out the final two weeks once Carolina fell out of playoff contention. He then had an arthroscopic procedure in January to remove scar tissue that built up after his 2017 surgery on a torn rotator cuff. Team physician Pat Connor was optimistic after he performed the January procedure, noting that cartilage damage in the shoulder was much less severe than he originally suspected. Newton resumed throwing footballs in May and was spotted throwing passes up to 20-25 yards during June minicamp. With his offseason routine impacted by the recovery process, the 30-year-old quarterback shifted his focus to losing weight, dropping down to around 240 pounds while utilizing a new trainer and a vegan diet. The Panthers likely will limit Newton's practice reps throughout the summer and possibly into the regular season.
It's possible to track the change in Cam Newton's fantasy value over time by looking at where he's drafted. According to the latest PPR average draft position data, he's being drafted in at the 9.05 spot.
How much this impacts Newton remains to be seen.
