Lands with practice squad

The Texans signed Montgomery to the practice squad Wednesday, Mark Lane of USA Today reports.

Analysis: Montgomery has gone unsigned since being let go by Indianapolis this preseason. Analysis: Montgomery signed with Indianapolis on Aug. 3 after being previously dropped from the Jets' 90-man offseason roster at the outset of training camp in July. Analysis: Montgomery was waived by the Jets last Tuesday after appearing in three contests for the team in 2021, making three catches on six targets for 36 yards. It didn't take long for the 25-year-old to find a new home, although he likely faces an uphill battle to earn a roster spot.

Let go by New York

Montgomery was waived by the Jets on Tuesday.

Analysis: Montgomery played in three contests for the Jets last season, making three catches on six targets for 36 yards. This isn't the first time Montgomery has been let go by the club, so an eventual return to New York isn't out of the question for the 25-year-old.

Back to Jets

Montgomery signed a deal with the Jets on Monday.

Analysis: Montgomery was waived by the Jets on May 9, but he's back for another chance with the squad. He appeared in three games last season, making three catches on six targets for 36 yards. In a corresponding move the Jets waived fellow wideout Rodney Adams.

Let go by Jets

Montgomery was waived by the Jets on Monday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

Analysis: Montgomery joined the Jets in August of 2020 upon being waived by the Browns. After spending that season on the practice squad, Montgomery made his NFL debut in 2021, appearing in three games, and catching three passes on six targets for 36 yards. The former Austin Peay product will now likely look to earn a shot elsewhere for the upcoming season.

Remains with Jets

Montgomery signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on Monday.

Analysis: Montgomery was on the Jets' practice squad all season and caught three of six targets for 36 yards in three games. He'll attempt to nab a roster spot in training camp assuming he remains with the team through the offseason.

Gets elevated Saturday

The Jets elevated Montgomery from their practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

Analysis: With Jamison Crowder (calf) doubtful and Elijah Moore still on the COVID-19 list, Montgomery will be elevated for a second straight game. Last week, the 25-year-old wideout played eight offensive snaps but didn't receive any targets. He also played eight special team snaps, recording one tackle on the kick coverage unit. He will likely garner a similar role against the Buccaneers in Week 17.

Back to practice squad

Montgomery reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.

Analysis: Montgomery played eight offensive snaps but didn't garner any targets. He also played eight special-team snaps, recording one tackle on the kick coverage unit. If Jamison Crowder and Elijah Moore remain sidelined in Week 17, then Montgomery would be a likely candidate for a second straight elevation.

Gets elevated Saturday

The Jets elevated Montgomery from the practice squad Saturday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Analysis: Montgomery made an impact in his one previous elevation Week 14 against the Saints, hauling in three of six targets for 36 yards. Considering Jamison Crowder (calf) is doubtful for Sunday's contest against the Jaguars, Elijah Moore (quadriceps) is on the reserve/COVID-19 list, and Corey Davis (groin) is out for the season, Montgomery could mix into a receiving corps that also includes Keelan Cole, Denzel Mims, Braxton Berrios and Jeff Smith.

Demoted after three catches

Montgomery reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Analysis: Montgomery made his NFL debut in Week 14 and racked up three receptions in garbage time. He also finished third among the Jets' wide receiver corps in snaps, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him promoted again in Week 15 with Elijah Moore (quadriceps) sidelined.

Three catches in NFL debut

Montgomery made his regular-season debut and caught three of six targets for 36 yards in Sunday's 30-9 loss to New Orleans.

Analysis: Montgomery didn't make much of an impact, and his production came after the game was well out of reach. With the Jets shorthanded at wide receiver, it wouldn't be surprising if they elevated Montgomery from the practice squad again in Week 15 against Miami before making a decision on whether or not to offer the 25-year-old wideout a contract.

Elevated to face Saints

Montgomery was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.

Analysis: Montgomery has spent the season on the Jets' practice squad, though he has not been on the active roster. With Corey Davis (groin) and Elijah Moore (quadriceps) both sidelined, he could see time on offense but will almost certainly contribute on special teams.

Waived by Jets

The Jets waived Montgomery on Tuesday.

Analysis: Montgomery spent 2020 season on the Jets' practice squad and subsequently signed a reserve/future contract with them following the season. After spending a full offseason with the team, he was ultiamtely unable to make enough of an impression to earn a spot on their 53-man roster.

Back with Jets on future contract

The Jets signed Montgomery to a reserve/future contract Monday.

Analysis: The Austin Peay standout didn't receive any game opportunities with New York after joining the team off waivers Aug. 30. Initially an undrafted free agent signing of the Browns in 2019, the 24-year-old remains devoid of an NFL regular-season appearance. Montgomery dealt with an undisclosed injury during November, but he has since been cleared as he continues into the new year with the Jets.

Out with injury

Montgomer was placed on the Jets' practice squad injured list Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.

Analysis: The 23-year-old joined the Jets in late August and has been on the practice squad all season, but he's now dealing with the unspecified injury. It's unclear how long Montgomery is expected to be sidelined.

Moves to practice squad

Montgomery was waived by the Jets on Saturday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.

Analysis: Montgomery had just been claimed off waivers from the Browns, so this result shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Montgomery did end up on the Jets practice squad however, which could afford the 23-year-old a spot on the active roster down the road.

Sep 7, 2020 2:51 PM EST

Picked up by Jets

The Jets claimed Montgomery off waivers from the Browns on Sunday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Analysis: The Jets have a ton of injuries at wide receiver, including Breshad Perriman (knee) and Denzel Mims (hamstring), so they're adding depth whenever they can. Montgomery is a longshot to make the final roster if the Jets' wideouts get healthy.

Aug 30, 2020 2:23 PM EST

Waived by Cleveland

Montgomery was waived by the Browns on Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Analysis: The 23-year-old spent the entirety of the 2019 season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and won't break camp with the Browns this season. Montgomery signed with Cleveland as an undrafted free agent out of Austin Peay in May 2019.

Aug 29, 2020 10:27 PM EST

Heads to IR

The Browns placed Montgomery (hamstring) on the injured reserve list Wednesday.

Analysis: Montgomery originally missed practice Wednesday while dealing with the hamstring injury, and will now head to IR. The Austin Peay product already had long odds to make the roster, and will stay on the teams roster barring an agreement on an injury settlement with the team.
