The Packers waived Davis on Saturday.
Analysis: Davis' path to a roster spot in Green Bay was a difficult one in a receiving corps that includes another competent returner (Trevor Davis) that was drafted by the team. Considering three weeks remain of the preseason slate, Jawill Davis likely will get another shot elsewhere in the near future.
Davis played seven snaps on offense and three on special teams in Thursday's preseason opener, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. He recorded one kickoff return for 24 yards.
Analysis: Davis ended last season on injured reserve with a knee injury, but his recovery went as planned, and he was able to take the field for the first game of the exhibition season. Davis' return skills help his chances of making the cut, but given the Packers' depth at wide receiver, he's going to need to make a few more plays in order to come away with a spot.
Davis (knee) signed a contract with the Packers on Monday, Michael Cohen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Davis made four catches for 40 yards across seven games with the Giants during his rookie season, before landing on injured reserve due to a dislocated patella. The Bethune-Cookman product also played special teams and served as a reserve return man.
